a piece of the 650r lives on ...

...or you could just pick up a new XR700R next year with all the work already done for you. :applause:

really isnt my style, im sure alot of the bigger or older fellas will love the hell out of it, and im not saying it isnt an awesome bike, i just prefer something lighter and more nimble. which exactly why i am currently putting a very built pig motor into a custom trx450r frame.

I think I remember you metioning that before. You have any pics of this you can post somewhere? That sounds like it will be a beast.

BTW - I was just joking about the XR700R. I haven't seen or heard anything about it...just speculation.

Dont you mean the crf600x??

That would be cool as well. I just hope it isn't a two stroke replacement...high rev/high maintenance. I'm not knocking the 450's, I just like the reliability and lower maintenance of the XR's. Less downtime = more :applause:

honda could easily do a crf600 or 650 but you have to look at it from a business perspective. if you took a total of the xr650's sales over the past 7 years it is probably at least half of sales of their motox bikes or even certain atv models. fact is there doesnt seem to be a huge market for baja and desert conquering dirt bikes and atvs. i am not defending honda as i am a displacement guy myself obviously, it just seems that most people are happy with just the bare minimum, hell even on this site i havnt read of too many people venturing into the 60-70hp range of a motor that is easily capable of it so why would honda spend millions of dollars doing it??

Why would they develop the 700XX when the 450 is plenty capable? :applause:

like i mentioned early, it is for the larger people or older people who want a plush ride with the convienences of reverse and electric start. i honestly believe it was built to compete with the kfx700 and bikes like that, not the raptor. obviously a quad that weighs 500lbs cannot seriously be considered useful for any kind of racing except maybe cross country due to the ground clearance from the irs.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but since the 700XX was most likely developed with no real competition use in mind then who's to say the 650R won't come back as a 700R with electric start and road legal? Hopefully as not much more of a heavyweight as it is now though. I don't want a 400lb dirtbike.

These hypotheticals can go on for ever...maybe somebody at Honda will read a few posts here and take notes. Yeah right...

I had an 05 450x. I loved it. I dont race. I have my own land to ride on and it's 55 acres of solid woods and trails. Mostly all tight technical stuff with the exception of the fencelines. I sold it a few months back because the desire to have a xr650r was too much. I have been shopping for a used one but havent found any I liked that were priced right so I made the call today to the local dealer and bought an 07 xr650r. HOT DAMN! I cant wait to pick it up. I don't care what Honda is coming out with next (if anything) to replace the XRR. The XRR is good enough for me!

I'm with you dm64xb and congratulations! :applause:

This is all just speculation and hypothetical jib jab. I don't think that I'm alone though when I say that I hate to see the XR's, that I've been familiar with all my life, go away. It's just hard to accept something like that without wishful thinking.

Kinda like how I felt when they stoped making the 250r and then 2strokes in general :applause: strangely I was kinda bummed myself when I heard it was the end of the road for the BRP I guess cause I have always wanted Honda to produce a factory dual sport version with electric start. Looks like I will just have to buy an 07 and do it myself.

This don't look like a bad deal...don't know what shipping would be though. If it is still in the crate I'd be tempted to pick it up myself and put it away.

Capable of what? Running WFO for hundreds of miles and getting you back to your camp running? Doubtful....................:applause:

Capable in the same realm the CRF450's are when discussing Honda's lack of need to develop another big bore bike.

The argument thus far has been summed up as they won't because they have the CRF450's and they are winning races now that the 650 competed in before. So I say, why did they bring about the 700XX quad when it is most likely not aimed at a competetive market. They already had the TRX450R for that market niche.

The dual sport market is there. If it weren't there wouldn't be so many aftermarket companies selling dual sport kits. The market isn't always decided by whether or not a bike can fill a competetion role.

Just my .02
