Updated Plastic/Graphics on Early XR650R

Recommended Posts

Just purchased an 01 650R and curious about updating the look a little bit. I have a thing for factory bikes and was thinking it'd be cool to go to a 06 or 07 set of plastic, seat and graphics. I notice some of the body parts have different part numbers between 2007 and 2001 that I checked.

What is different? I assume not color, because one of the fenders shared the same number. Is is even possible to put the updated stuff on my 01?

Later tonight I will probably post the different part numbers when I have some more time on my hands.

Also, I REALLY like the newer looking seats. My friends have 05 and 06 CRF450s that have a kind of "reversed gripper" seat from the factory. Are the newer 650 seats that same material??

For the most part I have answered my own questions. I believe the parts are the same, except graphics which I was unaware the plastic has pre-installed. The exception is the rear fender. 2002 and up all use part number 80120-MBN-830ZA, but my 2001 is part number 80120-MBN-700ZA.

Judging by the slight difference in pn's I am assuming the 2002+ rear fender has different stickers as well? Maybe a different Honda logo or warning stickers on it? Anyone have or seen both years together that could verify on the rear fender? Also I am still wondering if those newer seats are the gripper style like the CRF450s?

If you go on a site that sells OEM parts and has microfiche, you can see the difference in the stickers for different years. Service Honda or Ron Ayers has them I believe. They are under the "stripe" heading.

Bingo, looks like the "Honda" sticker on the rear fender has a different part number! Also looked close at some pics and it doesn't appear that the 650s use the factory "reversed gripper" style seats. Thanks for the help!
