nice book for 2 smokes.

20 pages for top end rebuild on the 2smoke vs. 4 pages for the 4strokes.

The problem you have is that you have only had modern bikes. Buy yourself a 10+ year old 2-stroke in the $600-$1000 range and ride it. It will break every ride and you will have to fix it yourself or go broke bringing it to a shop. While you are learning you will mess up repair jobs and then you will really learn how things are done when you repair your mistake. After a while you will take heed to what the manual says and usually get it right the first time. ...that is how I learned, at least.

On the other hand, if you just post your motorcycle mechanics questions here concisely one at a time and try to understand the answers given you could learn a lot too.

Hes right. Trial and error is often a great learning tool. Although often an expensive one. If you have someone who knows bikes have him help you once in a while and have you do the work while he supervises.

Im lucky, I have friends that are more that happy to point out the problems with my bike. Those jerks :)

thanks for your help

I have a 1980 XR200 that I am going to try and fix up

I know that it need to be board out, new fork seals, front bearings, and much more I figured that would be a good trail and air bike

Well, the xr200 is a good trail bike, but I would not recommend it for much air. :)

The suspension section will pay for the book the first time you use it.

A fork oil CHANGE, that would be FORK OIL CHANGE, runs $50 -$70.

A re-valve will run $200 - $350 (Pro Action cost me $350).

Having someone clean your carb: $60 - $100.

If you read your manual THOROUGHLY,
ask LOT's OF QUESTIONS on TT,
TAKE YOUR TIME,
TRUST IN YOURSELF,

you will get through it fine.
