Hope yall aint placing any online orders with XRsonly

Recommended Posts

Okay...I was in the process of placing an order with XRsonly.com.

As I was filling out the registration I noticed they did not use a Secure Server. Was kinda concerned about that.

Went to the next webpage where they ask about shipping, still no Secure Server. Very concerned about that.

Then I get to the webpage where they want my credit card number, and still no Secure Server!!! HUH!!!!????? Are they out of their minds??? Yeah...like I'm gonna broadcast my credit card number for the whole internet world to see. Gawd....***sigh*** uh boy.:banghead::foul::applause:?

Please DO NOT place an online order at xrsonly.com. You stand a very good chance of someone NOT AUTHORIZED to see your credit card information and to use it for fraudulent purposes!!!.

Other than that...?

Not really defending them, but I think that there are a whole lot more things to be worried about than if a site is encrypted when entering credit cards. It's a lot more difficult for others to see your card data while in transit than most think. It's hardly like you are really "broadcast(ing) my credit card number for the whole internet world to see." Personally I think that it is more a result of really good marketing by certificate providers that has made the expectation of SSL.

Think about it for a second. When you go to a restaurant you hand your physical card to someone and they take it from your sight. It would be really easy for them to clone your card. Not just the number, but the whole thing.

If you really want something to worry about, I would worry about what they do with your CC number after the order is complete. One CC number in flight over the internet is not worth much. Hackers want a database of every CC number that a business has.

Like I said I'm not defending them, and I think that they should get SSL working on their site. They have been totally redoing the site. Maybe it's on the to do list.

Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

i agree with cleonard, i have never had any problems with online credit card fraud, but i have had someone get my credit card number from an old reciept and try buy something. from what i could figure someone must have taken a reciept out of my employee file from a purchase i made from my personal credit card for the company. they then took the numbers and tried to pay their $500 electric bill. luckily capital one called me and said the purchase was out of the ordinary and asked if it was authorized, and of course it wasnt so i had to cancel that credit card and get another.

If it's not a secure site (going through http, instead of https, on port 80 instead of port 443), I'd make sure to clear your cookies immediately after completing your transaction. Other than that, as mentioned above by Cleonard, you pretty much run the same risk as you do when completing a transaction in the real world when the waiter/bartender takes your card out of your site.

Oh...wow. I simply cannot agree with that. I'm afraid it's a lot EASIER than most people think. Anytime you are at an unsecured (http) website you are literally exposed to the internet world. Furthermore, there are millions upon millions of people using software designed to detect any and all correspondance on ANY unsecured website. Many are legit advertizing companies using it as means of tracking your movements on the internet. However, many are NOT and have the necessary software to either cause malicious harm to your computer AND/OR the software to see anything and everthing that you type in (in real time), nevermind the transit!!!

An example would be internet mail using a standard http protocal. Most e-mail websites are set up that way. What a lot of people don't know is how easy it is for some people to actually break into an email account, especially easier if you have a weak password.

When you do any online shopping on an unsecured site you are literally taking the same risk as reading and/or sending email with very little protection AND you are in fact broadcasting any and all vital information that you may enter.

What makes unsecure ordering sites so bad is what maybe on your computer at the time you make the order. Webhanser, securewebcrawel, and tons of other trojan hprse programs that you may get loading free screen savers, and all kinds of other stuff you can down load. These programs send all kinds of info gathered by cookies out to those that want it. I would not use unsecure online ordering. The difference between the guy behind the counter and the internet is those that want the info on the net want it and use it now. I see it as just another reason not to use XR's Only by phone or intrenet. I can buy their stuff from to many other places at cost or less then to deal with them direct.

check with your bank to see if they have anything like SHOPSAFE. with my bank i get a credit card number generated for each online transaction that is good for any amount i choose. i just bought a cover for my racelight and got a visa credit card number that was good for only $20 so if it was intercepted they would only get, yep, $20. the virtual card expires after 2 months. the service is free at my bank, well, it's folded into all of the fees i must be paying....

That's a heck of an offer Denn not many people are willing to help others out like you, I wish I would have known this two weeks ago when I ordered my gas tank, smog block off kit , and tool bag LOL. I too was surprised that their site wasn't secure, I kinda thought that all retail site were supposed to have some level of security. :applause:

Just my $.02 here, but I had heard ALOT of bad things about XR's only here, people slinging all kids of mud at them for their customer service, their shipping/receiving, etc., and now apparently this secure server thing. In the wake of all that, not sticking up for them or anything, because I have heard some horrific customer service stories. But in the last 3 months, I have done roughly $500 worth of business with them and been extremely happy. They did the head work for my XR600, turned it around withing a week and kept me informed at every step of the process. I sent it on Monday, I had it back on my door step that Friday, no joke. I ordered another couple hundred $ worth of goodies from their web page and got the same drill, ordered on Monday and received the stuff on Friday. And I distinctly remember the little padlock in the corner of my browser during the entire checkout process. I'm always a little weary of ordering online and I always check for that very reason. Not trying to downplay anyone else's horrific XR's experience, just trying to say that for this XR lover, they worked out great. And no I don't work for them or have any affiliation with them what-so-ever, cause I've heard that before too. I love my old XR and parts are becoming more and more difficult to come by and I believe in the old fashioned word of mouth type advertising. I'd hate to see a specialty store like XR's to go down in flames because too many people had a bad experience and not enough people with good experiences spoke up. Certainly not to say that I am not the exception, rather than the rule, but that it is possible to have a pleasant experience with the folks @ XR'S Only.

And I distinctly remember the little padlock in the corner of my browser during the entire checkout process.

And I instinctively and destinctly rememeber there being no https://, no little padlock in my browser throughout any step of the checkout process, which in my case included the registration for first time customers. When I got to the point where they want your credit card number, again with no https:// or padlock, I immediately cancelled my order, no way I was gonna put my CC number on a unsecured server.

I have done online ordering for several years and this is the first time I have ever experienced a non-secured server for checking out.

I don't know what is going on with XR's only, just rumors that they're revamping their website. I have tried several times to contact XR's only about it, but everytime I submit a message, it totally erases my message. No confirmation the message was submitted or anything. I do want to do business with them. They've got a lot of stuff that I want. I hope they get this issue taken care of soon. I tend to rely on the internet for the majority of my purchasing of consumer goods, largely cuz I work alot of hours and get home too late.

I really have not heard any horror stories about XR's only. I wouldn't even call my first and recent experience with them a horror story at all. No damage done really, just shocked a little. I definately meant no disrespect towards them. Just wanted to bring the issue to the table, maybe learn a few things as to why they're having problems.

Anyways....that's all I got to say about it.

Thanks Denn. Thats should show people who you really are.

+2!! Denn thats one of the nicest things I've seen anyone offer up for fellow riders:thumbsup: Im always concerned about ordering online but I also feel that there are not enough places out there like XRs only that cater to us "Pig Riders" and even though they seem to be behind in the times when it comes to the internet I hope we can all still support them in anyway we can because I think we would ALL lose something if they went away! Just my worthless opinion!!

This is all typical of a smaller business with a high demand in service and parts. I say give them a break. They will catch up eventually. I personally have no problems with them.

The bad thing is there way to small a building specially for the business im sure they have had build up since 2000. There area where you go into the building is usually cluttered with parts and paperwork. They need to step up and get away from that old building by the airport and open a nice new one. XRs has been around for long enough im sure there not going out of business anytime soon.

Martin im gonna do some experimenting with head mods myself, gonna buy a head and start first with just smoothing all casting out and see how that improves flow. Going with a FCR pumper like you got, ill search on ebay and find a nice used one prolly. Just need to stop buying so much Archery stuff LOL bought 2 bows in the past few weeks and spent about $1k already LOL thats why i gotta sell the stuff ive had for a while sitting in the garage. Got a few things on ebay now and a few more to go.
