08 WR 450 help with YZ forks

Recommended Posts

Why would you need YZ wheel spacers? Jeff S

The older WR's incorporate the drive for the odometer in one of the wheel spacers, and that side of the YZ wheel is a bit different. It probably the same on the new models. I noticed this when I bought a used front wheel for a spare, and it was from a YZ.

No big deal, but you need the YZ spacer for the left side.

I have 08 wr450 and, 08 yz forks. They slid in the clamps just fine but, the right fork guard wont line with the yz holes. Then there is the odo thingy:banghead: Please help Josh S

I put 07 YZ SSS Forks on my 07 WR. No problem with fork guards or spacers???? Are you using your WR fork guards?

It seams the left fork guard will fit but, the right one has a different hole pattern. The other problem I am having is the brake caliper mount is a different size...

I can absolutely confirm that 07 YZ SSS forks fit perfectly on the 07 WR (WR caliper and WR guards line up exactly ). I cant recall any major change to these parts in 08. There should definitely be no problem with the odometer fitment as long as you are using a WR Wheel and WR fork Guard on the YZ forks.

Where did you get the YZ forks from? Are you sure they are from an 08?

I also have a 07 WR with 07 YZ forks, they slide on with no changes, wheel spacers etc are not needed. Stecknines problem is from a 08 WR to a 08 YZ fork set up. The caliper is different and so are the fork guards. To solve your problem all you need to do is spend more money. Buy 08 YZ fork guards, yes you will have to modify these. Back to e-bay for a 08 caliper off a YZ and you should be fine.

You should of asked your big brother first, (your not supposed to gulp your food, try swallowing). Jeff S

I now fined myself with the same problem. is it possible to change the lower part of the fork, the part that has the caliper mount on it? also is the fork from a 07 250f have the same caliper mount problem?

If you bought a 08 fork set up off a YZ, you will need 08 YZ axle and spacers, caliper and fork guards. Yamaha must of realized that we were swapping parts and they were not making a profit from it. Jeff S

Yes, though Factory Connection revalved a friends 07 front and back, I'm impressed how well they made the stock fork work. I've never riden a bike so well balenced. I raced 102 miles yesterday of which 101 miles were deep whoops :applause: , the stock YZ forks worked well, way better then my revalved WR forks. Today I will be sending Factory Connection my suspension, with the blisters I have on my hands I won't be needing to ride for a week or so. Jeff S

i'm in a similar position, YZ forks or not? the forks from my 08 WR450 are at factory connections right now, i scrached one of the lower fork tubes so i sent them to factory connections to have a new fork tube put on and to get them revalved and re-sprung for my weight. problem is the fork tube is on back order from Yamaha and is going to take 2 weeks to get to FC. the price for the fork tube and the re-valve is almost the same as a brand new set of YZ forks. is it that much trouble fitting the YZ forks?
