I'm looking for an o-ring chain and steel sprockets.

I like using motosport for this type of thing. Pick your combination type of package with a reasonable price. Even if they are a little more expensive than somewhere else, after you factor in no tax and free 2nd day shipping, it usually ends up being cheaper than the rest. Just my opinion.

Rocky mountain sells some good quality cheaper sprockets called Primary Drive. I've haven't used them yet, but a lot of people on here say they work well and last long.

I have a primary drive gold chain and aluminum sprocket that I bought as a kit from Rocky Mountain. I heard that the kit uses a D.I.D chain from a master roll and they only cut it to length. The sprockets are not as “bling” as some of the others out there but are good quality. I have a few practice rides and one cross-country race on it and it still looks good. I have only tightened it once after the first ride and it still does not need tightening again. For the price it is a good setup if you are not interested in impressing your friends.

Can anyone tell me if the 03 steel kit comes with a 14 or 15 front. All they say is same as stock but I'm told some of the 03's came with 14, and some came with 15.

Last week i installed chain and sprockets on daughters xr250 from sprocket specialtists out of California. They can make about any size spockets you want, up to 78 for the rear. Last summer installed moose sprockets from dennis kirk on wr250. No complaints about either set of sprockets, but all my future orders will go to sprockets specialists.

Sidewinder sprockets have one that is supposedly guaranteed for life. It is a bit pricey though you may want to look into it.

The 03' kit part number is the same as my 05' kit and it came with a 14.

Also, in the comments on the Rocky Mtn. website there is a comment about the kit not coming with a master link, this is not the case, it does. If I bought again I would probably go with steel rear to save a little money.

sidewinder personally makes the best sprokets , but they are expensive . they have stainless ones and a bunch of blended alloys , they are nice units . DID chain and sidewinders.

i doubt i will buy sidewinder sprockets , but it would be nice .

Regarding Chains and sprockets,

THis is a chicken or egg question. Does the chain wear out the sprocket or the sprocket wear out the chain? I have tried lots of combinations expensive and cheap. Cheap doesn't pay off if you are doing much riding. I average around 2,000 klm per month and choose Ironman sprockets hands down. One set lasts me more than a year, 14 to 15 months. I have had other products last 2 months and they are wasted. This is with proper chain maintenance at all times too.

When you look at an Ironman rear sprocket, it looks cheesy, but don't be fooled. They are bullet proof, mud, sand, lots of water, they are hard and wear long. I now have 27,000 klm and 13 months on my latest set and am just now sending in for another 15t/48t combo.

Buy good stuff and worry less.

That's about the best unquestioanable endorsement for a product that I have ever seen. 27000 kms is astounding life from a sprocket. What chain and lube are you using? WR Dave

I've gone through an Ironman countershaft sprocket. But in a year and a half of hard racing and riding, lot's of mud, I've gone through 3 CS sprockets and a chain but my rear Ironman sprocket still has no wear
