XR650R 15th sprocket options?

Will a late model XR650L 15tooth sprocket fit my XR650R?

I prefer the OEM honda for the quality and the rubber damping as well as the fit.

Mine wears a 15 and I love it the bike is much happier threw the the gears on the road

You can check Rocky Mountain they have several in thier catalog.

I don't know if the L model sprocket will fit but I prefer just a plain steel sprocket for my stuff. I went to Rockymountainatv.com and ordered the one that fits our bike. Please go to the Thumpertalk store and check there first to support this place. I am sure that they can set you up with a great product. I use steel sprockets on the rear also. 15-45 is great for me for dualsporting. Have fun and ride safe, Tony

Ive NEVER ordered factory OEM sprockets and always use other name brands, they are all pretty much same grade steel, some may be different, but any quality name sprocket will last long. And the good thing is counter shaft sprockets are cheap!! Not like rears.

I've taken my 14 with before on trail rides ,but I dont ever remember needing more snap.

I run 15 /40 I find this gear may offer more usable traction also.

what tires with that combo? 15/40 sounds way high with regular knobbies

Very little off road mostly gravel roads in winter WI. other wise just single track around my property .

with these tires less snap is your friend ya know.

Over the years I've riden this bike all over the miwest she runs 80mph on the highway withuot complaint at about 50mpg.

My arse is good for about 4 tank full a day she may have over 10,000 Hwy miles on her .

It's about 200mile to Elkart lake WI.from Park forest IL.

Ridding there is the torture I endure to have this bike in the tracks infield.

The 650R CS sprocket has extra thickness where it slides onto shaft and is totally different than 600R and 650L.

The after-market 15T I use looks to be almost identical to the OEM (the thickness is the same).

I have always had "crappy" after market steel sprockets on my bike (15X45) and have NEVER had any problems.....While I do throw on $8 counter shaft sprokets, and $25 drive sprockets, I do use nice X-ring chains. The chain is the moving part and is worth investing a little more in. The sprockets are simple parts and as long as they dont deform or wear quickly (like aluminum does) you should be fine with the cheap stuff.

My 2006 XRR has to have close to 20K miles by now and I've only changed the drive train 2.5 times...and I've never had any problems with non-OEM parts.

I use a renthal front sprocket,and a cheap steel rear.

Sprockets? I dont know, some Chinese crap that I haven't taken the time to try and figure out how to pronounce.... but the Primary Drive brand sprockets @ rockymtn look to be a good value.

For my chain I'm using a Primary Drive gold ORH x-ring from rockymountainatv.com ...Ive read nothing but good stuff about this chain...and it looks like a quality product... I think i paid about $60 for it. A DID will run you about $90.

No it isn't but the XRL sprockets are, that's why I wanted to see if they fit.

When I geared my XR600R I used XR650L 15th OEM as it is good quality, very wide at the spline area and rubber damped.

The various aftermarket ones for it looked at were narrow at the spline area, had narrow pointy teeth and were not well made.

This was a JT and a Sunline i think?

The OEM XRL sprockets are a very well thought out design and of high quality......too bad there isn't one for the BRP too.

Guess I'll source out a high quality aftermarket....Renthal or ??

The Renthal chart shows the same counter sprocket numbers for the R and L.

All other aftermarket companies chart show the R and L using different numbers?

I think I will just go with the Renthal 15th.....should be a no brainer as for quality and fit??

Do most of you use the stock case-saver when you run a 15T front on your 650R's? I have only used my 15T once and the stock case saver barely has enough clearance. I think the chain rubbed against it lightly when I was off the gas slowing down. Just wondering what everyone else does.

Stock guard for me never noticed it rubbing.
