Ive read alot of threads and ppl say that one of the big differences that you get from a 428 chain conversion is due to the obvious fact of the non o-ring chain but also the aluminum sprocket helps aswell.

My question is, has anyone installed a aluminum sprocket and kept the stock o-ring chain and noticed any difference?

Im sure it would make a difference because of the lighter sprocket but it will wear faster than the regular steel one

i switched to an alum. rear and dumped the stock o-ring for a non o-ring chain, the difference is very noticable

alot more throttle response, and a nice snap from them, the non o-ring takes away alot of the resistance that is there with the stocker.

Im wondering if alum sproket alone with oring chain will make noticeable power gain, because i wanna keep the money i got for a new set of tires or maybe ill get the chain conversion kit.

Wheres the cheapest place to buy a 428 chain with alum sprocket ?

oh, i didnt go 428, i stayed with a 520 non o-ring..

i thinks its much more cost effective and the 520 seems to suit the 230 better than the 420.

Before I went with the 428 kit(which I am digging) I put a Renthal alumi rear sprocket on with my stock chain. Great snap and response. I went with stock gearing and it worked great.

Thats great to hear, have you put enough miles on it to see if it weared out at all compared to the Stock steel sprocket?

Firstly I'll say I haven't, but there will certainly be a difference because the aluminium sprocket is lighter. But the noticeable difference will most likely be soo small that it would seem hard to justify spending the money.

The money is well worth the performance difference, unless you do not ride your bike at a level to notice the improvement.

Yes there was a little wear, but I would do it again anytime if for some reason I decide I do not like my 428 kit.

I found on ebay a chain and sprocket combo with JT sprockets and "DID 520 standard non o-ring chain" for 70 bucks. Im thinking if this is a decent chain i can later on buy the alum sprocket.

thats a pretty good deal..

and it comes with a new steel sprocket and front, so you can replace all of em at the same time and get even wear...

the non o-ring made a huge difference for me..

this deal with the Chain and sprocket would cost me 20-30 bucks more than the alum sprocket alone. Did you do non o-ring with steel or alum sprocket?

the main concern is the chain that comes with the deal on ebay, will it be any good cause i have never heard of DID chains.
