WR450 Cheap Speedo With Existing Cable?

Handheld GPS NO CABLE:p WalMart 75 bucks...Check ebay you might be able to find one used even cheaper. I haven't investigated as mine was given to me.

What do you mean by cheap???????? Back in 02 before my 03 WR 450 arrived I ordered a speedometer for a 2001 Yamaha XT 350, or whatever the last year that they made that bike. It is cable operated, and calibrated for a 21 inch front wheel. It cost $116.00. It has a light for night time use. The only drawback was that I had to fabricate a mount, but that done, it has been on my bike 4 years and almost 7000 miles and it still works great. It works all the time, never have to change batteries, reprogram or worry if there are too many trees overhead to get a reading from the satelite. Best $116.00 I've spent.

Also, I forgot that the TT store shows a speedometer that is in Baja Designs catalogue. It also hooks right up to the existing cable. It is also lighted. You will have to make a mount for it also. It sells for $64.95 plus freight. A riding buddy has one on his DRZe and it is within a tenth or two of my bike after a 30 mile ride.

I just don't feel like a gps mounted to the bars will survive in the woods with me being the pilot:crazy:

Who needs a speedo in the trees?

Plus my gps (if and when mounted) is behind the light plastic so is shielded unless I dump it. I only mount it for inspections anyway since I can just figure speed by gears and throttle at this point.

Don't think you are gonna get any cheaper than 70 bucks for an accurate speedo for that bike unless you hit up a junkyard and then you still gotta be sure that the linkage is at least close to that on your bike. Does a bicycle speedo even go to 100 mph? Sounds like you might need to make you one of these for your helmet

I felt like the install was pretty easy. Although I am quite the "fiddler" I spent a lot of time making a custom mounting bracket. However they supply a perfectlly fine bracket.

You will have to drill a hole in you front brake caliper mounting bracket. Which means you will have to remove your front brake caliper. I taped a zip tied my speedo wire to my front brake hose up to the bars mount the unit done.

Read directions and set the new information into the speedo. Which can be done on the couch with beer.

If you are concerned about the durability of the unit. Mine went through the washing machine in a jacket pocket a couple of years ago and is still working great.

Dude, you know how cheap us southerners are:D . Plus, I do loop my bike quite often on hill climbs here.

My bike goes from nasty singletrack to dualsport duty. I'm looking for something cheap to keep me legal and track my time on my favorite trails:thumbsup: .

I have a digital speedo from an '85 XR350 on my WR400, cable screwed right on. My son has a $10 junkyard speedo from a '70s era XL Honda, works on his 650R and my WR.
