I can't believe there is no BRP for 08. I have always wanted one and always told myself one day I would buy one. I bought an 05 450x when they first came out....yeah it was fast but my riding buddy had a BRP and I always liked it more than my X....I'm fighting the urge to pay premium and buy an 07....help, Help, HElp, HELP....I need therapy! Tell me reasons why I should so I can tell em to my wife:prof: .....

My intent is not to cause anyone pain...My intent is to buy one like I should have done years ago but didn't. i don't care what Honda is coming out with next. I will forever love the BRP and it feels like time to buy one. Throw in the "wife factor" and thats where my trouble begins:cry: .
I can still hear my buddies BRP.......bbbbrrrraaaapppppppppp and then see the spray of rocks, grass, and dirt behind him. Freaking awesome. Now once again, How can I shmooze the wife of 14 years like I've never shmoozed her before...

I've tried it all in the past and been ok. I did get some grief a year and a half ago when I just showed up at home wit a 2006 KTM 950SM....but I sold my Bandit 1200s to buy the SM, and I did just pay off my truck.....hmmmmmm:banghead: What to do,,,,What to do????
If only the damned dealership wasn't closed on Mondays I could make the much needed phone call to them.

Have you ever heard "it is easier to get forgiven than to get permission"?

I guess I'm the lucky one here. I'd been toying with either the R or L since this past fall, saved a few ads on ebay and whined about how pathetic my DR350SE was for highway traffic and how my back could no longer handle the Suzuki seat. My wife of thirteen years bought the '07 XR650L for Christmas when I finally decided the L was highway ready and the R was not.

Of course all of this transpired after watching "Dust to Glory" several times together!

You might also try to work the "But...It's the last one, Honey!"

As far as the wife goes, isn't the 650R a collectors addition bike? I'm pretty sure that it will be worth twice what you paid fo it in a couple of years.

I thought that 2, but im sure honda will come out with something even more big and bad then the 650R and 450X within the next few years, and the 650R will just be some old dirtbike. Maby worth something plated.

I see your in Texas though, you should be able to get a 07 650R at a dealer for a good price. Do your homework and search, bikes are cheeper down south and out west.

The way I see it all dirt bikes of this era will be just old dirt bikes in the next few years. The question is which ones will be still running.

you can buy it and tell her "you really wanted it and once you plate it, it will be worth more and if all else fails you can get your money back"

Some truth to that.
I got a great deal from a dealership ($5400) on a 2007 LTR-450. Went to sell it and put an add on craigslist and just linked the Suzuki site here: http://www.suzukicyc...K7/Default.aspx

Everyone looked at the MSRP and most hadnt even called or talked to a dealer. I ended up trading it for my 06 BRP with every horn and whistle man could ask for (plated and boxes full of spare sprockets etc...steering stab. etc etc). But when I got back home that Saturday had 2 offers one in email and one in voice mail offering between $5500 - $6000 cash that day.

I called my local Honda dealer and he said he could get me an 07 for 5250 plus tax. He then said I should wait because September is Hondas 50th anniversary and is coming out with something new to replace the 650r. He didn't know what yet. Could he be this informed or is this another rumor that has been out there for a while?

Honda was founded in 1948 so they celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1998. There are a lot of rumors and ideas of what will replace the 650R...if anything. Me, I didn't want to take that chance so I went and picked up a new 07 last weekend while they are still available. I love it...no regrets! With the new breed of high revving 4 strokes it's hard to say if honda will have a new big bore 4 or not. Better safe than sorry.:applause:

"Dust to Glory" got me amped to get a bike again (after being bikeless for 6 years), I am not so sure it worked on my wife though!

I have a feeling (I hope, but maybe I'm wrong) that the pig has something more going for it - something to be remembered for over time.

I'm biased because I own one, but I think the 650R pretty special & memorable bike, I've never owned anything like it. And even long before I owned one, before I was even interested, the 650R had a kind of legendary status to me. I think it just might have the makings of one of those "special" bike that people talk about years later.

I think the old Yamaha XT500 (late 70's, early 80's) is a bit like that. People still look for them, rebuild them, reminisce about them. Owning one makes a statement. Don't know about in the US, but in South Africa/Australia/Europe that's the case.

Dunno. Time will tell.

I called the dealership back and was fuming, thinking I got the usual "dealer lies". He said that Honda is calling 2009 their 50th anniversary and he wasn't sure why but swore thats what Honda says.

Like you I dont want to take a chance. I see a BRP in my near furture, uncorked and plated.
