Hey All,

Just thought I would share my latest mods to my 2000 650L. I really didn't like the way the stock fenders looked. To me they looked kinda tired and saggy or needed a good dose of Viagra. I decided to trim the front fender and replace the back fender.

For the front fender, I made a cardboard template of the rounded shape of the leading edge and then traced it on the fender so that my cut would match. However, I wish I would have left it about 1" longer. It is just a little too short and allows water and mud to shoot out in front of the bike and come back and hit me in the face and chest.

For the rear, I replaced it with a stock CFR fender. I wanted it to kick up more in the back so I mounted it under the forward brace (under the seat) instead of on top. It took a lot of trimming, but it turned out great (IMHO). I added the BD LED taillight, adjusted (sledge-hammered) the rear frame support, and was ready to go!

What do ya think?

Great looking bike! I really like the rear fender! The front looks a bit short, but makes it look aggressive!:banghead:

Yeah, I wish I would have left it just a bit longer. The mud and water come out the front a little too high and then it comes right back at me.:busted:

Did you have to do any trimming on that 400 front fender?

No trimming on the xr4 fender. Only had to use a stack of 5 washers on each rear bolt. Just to shim the tip up a little so the back tip wouldnt hit the header.

I cut 6'' off the stock front fender. Kinda wish I left more on it. Its stiffer and don't blow around at 75 anymore. But it looks cooler though!!

Yeah, it's a lot stiffer. I always hated going down the highway and having it flappin' in the breeze. It does makes it feel more stable now.

Looks great. How in the world did you keep the stock subframe?

Martinfan, do you have yours?

BTW, the Acerbis Teknik front fender works well also. It even has an indentation that you can run the wiring loom through.

I just "persuaded" it with a sledgehammer.:busted:

The paint cracked a bit which I will have to touch up, but the metal frame came through all right and helps support the fender :banghead:
