XR650R HP Power Mods

Does anyone have any popcorn? This inquiry should stir a few opinions....Try posting in the Husky section for kicks................Based on information from a Husky owner I know (who formerly ran the XRR and being a R owner myself, I would have to say the Husky may get the edge.......never ran against one personally...........a lot of factors to look at as well.........:banghead:

I would also like to also consider (besides the carb mods) the hypothetical case if an R were fuel-injected too (will this open up too much variation/uncertainty? not sure...).

You are asking for comparisons, and throwing in Hypotheticals............not sure I understand what it is you hope to learn from this disscussion.

Anything can be made to be faster than anything else, given enough cubic dollars. The Husky's are already near their high performance limit, where the XR could be (and has been) taken to the extreme without even splitting the cases to do so. Add 15 more HP to the Husky, and you will start breaking things.

I suppose to make it simpler we can take the hypothetical fuel injection off the table, but in the end, if the R has 73 cc more of displacement than the TE610, then why is it so damn hard? I was asking if you kept the Husky stock, can you mod the R to outperform in HP and weight all the while making it street street-legal? In the end, I thought the TE610 was my dream bike, but would like to stay red and if an R can get there, then my dream would be even sweeter.

I've had both bikes. Just sold the TE610 a few months ago. A stock TE can hang with the XRR in top end (butt dyno) but has no where near the low end, tractor-like power of the 650R. Overall I like the XR power a little better because of the low end. It suits my style better.

As for the Husky's reliability, the TE610 is Husky's version of the XR. It's actually a older design that they've refined over the years. It is SUPER reliable.

As for your question...I suppose they both weigh about the same and will both respond very well to hop ups. But like the ole hotrodders say, 'there's no replacement for displacement.'

Here's a little video I made on my TE610 a few months ago. Turn the sound down if you don't like Anthrax.

The Huckies claimed weight is 140kg or 308lbs.

The XR's claimed is 277 or 125.8 kg actual weight is 287 or 130.4 kg.

Now we all know about claimed weight being a bit optimistic.

Here in Oz there have been heaps of 610s raced and they all seem to blow up at extended high speeds in our premier desert race.

The 08 model is claimed at 309.7 lbs.

They have always been a good thing but they don't last.

i own both the xrr and 610 and the xrr will stomp the 610, but red is modded and the huskies is stock. for an L to beat the husky you'd have to be crankin the HPs like upwards of 50-55 hp, and an extra gear on the top

Thats funny. In my garage there is a 2007 xr650r and a 2007 te610. The xr is un corked, jetted with a pro circuit pipe and header. The te610 has the smog removed and a hmf slip on and it is jetted. The xr has more low end torque but the 610 will stomp it in a race. Now race through some woops and the far better suspension on the Husky really shines.

Stock vs stock the 610 is much, much faster.

I think the speed thing has to do with the Husky's 6th gear which is on the plus side for the Husky, but this is about the only plus I have for the Husky over a modded XR.

Can you show pics or list of what mods you did to your R (the discussion is for the R)? This will be quite useful. I agree, the R would have to be modded to get the performance to Husky level, but at what cost and weight?

That's funny...if this is true, then why was and is the R always outperforming the TE610 at Baja if the TE610 has better suspension?????:banghead:

A hand full of pro racers at baja does not mean a thing as far as stock bikes go. In the grand scheme of things, a few teams in baja mean nothing to the rest of the entire world. The xr forks are not even close to the 610 forks, regardless of what is done in baja. I have both right here. The reliability of the husky is as good as the honda. They have been making motorcycles for 120 years. Do you think the 1986 style forks on the xr are better the forks on a crf450 ?
