$4K buget?... Sorry dude.... Looks like you're riding a DRZ400 until ya save some more money. Perhaps if ya find another thousand and shop used ya might find a 2 year old KTM or Husky? Actually without researchin'... $4K might buy ya a used Husky? I believe they are into their 3rd year as a 50 state legal bike..

NOTE/DISCLAIMER... I have NO PROBLEMS WITH DRZ's... But they are not MX bikes. But they are the best low dollar street legal option. Please all you DRZ wacko's.... Don't send me letter bombs, Stick needles in a voo-doo doll or try to run over my dog:prof:

I had a husky 510smr and it was a dirt bike with lights and fat tires. It ripped. tons of power and awsome grip, but for the dirt you need to change tires and they are 17", great bike quality parts and well made. I race both honda's and yamaha dirt bikes, but for street legal stuff husky is a bike you should be able to buy used for about $4500- 5000 shop around, now is a good time to buy, no one has any money! Good luck.

Is this true? Someone said this in another topic of mine. If its right it would be very easy, dont have to be a resident? That would be awesome!!!

Vermont is the state in New England as far as I know. You don't have to be a resident to register a vehicle in the state either. So no license required.

^^^ anyone ever heard of this?

As long as your budget doesn't allow why not look at the KTM 530 instead of the 450?

I am but Im sure the 450 is fast enough for me and cheaper but I supose I would go for the 530 if it was only slightly more and if it doesnt weigh more.

Dirt Bike magazine says the new KLX is supposed to be street legel, are they legal in NY? Its almost the same as the KFX right?

Yeah, you could buy my street legal WR450 for a lot less than that.... but I'm not sure I want to part with it just yet. I'd look for a used KTM. There are lots of them around and most in NY are already plated. It's really hard to get anything else on the street, but nothing's impossible.:banghead:

NO, get over it dude... if you want to plate it, it will have to be European! A KLR or an XL or a DRZ that is set up for road riding will n o t be an MX bike. The picture of the Husky on the previous page is one of your best options.

The Husky and KTM are really you only options, aside from a DRZ.

You could always get a DRZ, spring it for your weight, and strip off the excess weight for MX.

any other options, which one do you think would be the best motocrosser?

I thought you said trailriding. motocross and trailriding (even off-road racing) are not the same thing.

Anyway, it sounds like in NY you have to buy something that has a plate on it already. 06 and up husky te's and 07 and up ktm exc's fit this requirement.

all the japanese bikes mentioned are more traditional 'dual-sport' bikes, meaning overweight, underpowered, poorly suspended bikes that are marginal in the dirt for any kind of high performance riding.

Thats the kind of performance Im trying to get, I dont race though, I do ride home made tracks with freinds.

Here's a plated WR450F in NY. I've been looking for a SM. Like the others have said, Husky, KTM, 2008 Aprilia's and DRZ's are the only way to go right now. However, besides the wheels and tires, you also have suspension to think about when going from pavement to dirt. I'll use my KX for dirt and when I find a SM, I'll use that for the street.

I've ridden the dual sports from the Big 4 and they come no where near a motocrosser. If you're looking for a MX style bike and buy a dual sport, you will not be a happy camper.

Thats because the dual sports from the big 4 are around 300 pounds, the KTM and Husky's are close enough
