the bmw's have better susp than the klrs but niether are much of a MX bike, are you wanting to actually ride mx on this thing or just have a street legal bike that can also do some trails etc?

HAHA! A 290 pound, underpowered 250? I disagree. I would give a big +1 to a KTM 450..

The KTM's or the Husky's come the closest. 100% steet legal. However they are suspended for the trail, not the track. They will be a little on the soft side. I'm sure that some revalving and possibly respringing could make them better for MX.

I want to have 2 sets of wheels and tires, one set to do some SM style riding on the tight curvy back roads that are paved and another set to go trail riding with friends and ride a home made track but no organized racing. Im small, I basically want the lightest street legal bike I can get.

Yeah and he was also looking for the most MX dual-sport.. anything over 260 doesn't qualify.

A ktm or husky would do that just fine.

Except for the fact that the original poster is in NY and can't plate a CRF450X.

EPA emissions, turn signals, brake light, parking light, DOT tires and most importantly, a VIN that says its street legal. Seriously, either the KTM or Husky are great bikes. With a suspension re-spring/re-valve for MX, they will be MX bikes. The frames are the same as their MX counterparts and the motor differences are not that much. The KTM is not the new 07'+ SX motor, but it is an evolution of the '06 and older SX motor. The Husky is that same basic motor as their SX bike, but with EFI instead of a carb. They will be tuned more for off-road use with different cams and heavier flywheels, but in no way are the "de-tuned", just more user friendly for everything other than an MX track. Both bikes will also come with quiet S/A silencers, but if you would replace the silencer on an MX bike, then that really doesn't matter since you'd be spending that money anyways.

The Husky doesnt have turn signal or mirrors either but it says DOT legal so I thought I could put that stuff on aftermarket and register without having a hard time, so could I get one of these and not have any issues?http://www.husqvarnausa.com/

It's a crap shoot to get a Husky street legal in NY. If you transfer a street title from another State, say, Jersey, you might be able to get it.

I just registered my KTM 450 street legal in NY. I transfered the title from Jersey where it was street legal. Many of our surrounding states will plate the exotic bikes (Husky, KTM) because of the "motorcycle" written on the title, not "for off-highway use only" like ALL Jap bikes.

Again, +1 on the KTM 450. I love mine. Unless you ride pro, it will work great for MX with suspension work. You'll need the suspension work anyway to motard, and MX set suspension will be real close to motard standards.

Otherwise, the only 450 Jap bike that's street legal is the DRZ400 or late model (06+) Husky Te450.

Motorhead, while Husky's website doesn't show the TEs with lights and mirrors, they do have them. Don't know why the pictures are wrong, but no worries there.

so is the TE-250 listed in NY as street legal or no? I really cant risk that kind of money I dont want to have to do the title transfer stuff.

Huh?

Husqvarna 2006 and newer TE250/450/510 come with a factory license plate just like the 2007/8 ktms.
