Thats exactly what I thought. My life IS in danger anytime anyone even thinks of pulling a gun on me so therefore hes gonna get his arkansas booty ran over. (since that was my only viable option at the time)

Yes, I could be sitting in a county jail right now in Arkansas awaiting trial, but you know what? I dont care because I WAS NOT in the wrong. The only thing I did wrong was get in his face a little and mabye the reason I did that is because he got in mine first.

I can understand the guy being a bit peeved but for god sakes, he could have been reasonable about it!

I have to share with you guys an article that is in this months Missouri Conservationist:

First Case of Hunter Harrassment Leads to a Fine

A Moniteau County woman who pleaded guilty to disrupting a deer hunt has become the first person to be fined under a state law prohibiting the harrassment of people legally engaged in hunting.

Pam F. Steppleman, 53, of Russleville, pleaded gulitly Dec. 18 in Moniteau County Associate Circiut Court to violating Revised Missouri Statute 578.151. The law, enacted in 1997, makes intentional interference with legal hunting, fishing and trapping a Class A misdemeanor. Convictions can bring a penalty of up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Conservation Agent Rex Marten cited Steppleman Nov. 10 after she disregarded his warning and continued to drive on a county road, honking her horn and playing her car radio loudly with the intent to disrupt the hunt of a man in a nearby tree stand.

So I ask...? Does this make us (as motorcycle riders) enviromentalists? I mean think about it, we ride around scaring off deer and turkey so they dont get shot at. Hmmmmmmm... ?

we dont ride with the entention of scarring anything away. You know how many deer i drive up on on my 4 wheeler they just stand there. Then i jack in a shell and shoot. So dont worry about it unless you are in your own head trying to ruin it for the hunters.

Just a quick note here... University of Colorado did a study a few years ago. They affixed heart monitors to a few deer and elk. They then marched a variety of "threats" by the monitored animals.

Dirtbikes rarely made the tickers move, as noted by the deer that stand there and look at you when you ride up. They don't associate you with a threat. (Get off the bike and they'll haul anus though)

Anyone wanna guess what the #1 threat was?

A hiker and a dog. Funny how you can't get the greenies to find this article...

Oh, and like a few others, I hunt too and I feel no animosity towards dirtbikers.

"reason for this from my Expert degree in hunting tells me is that a noisey machine the animals can here from a mile away no spooking involved. Shut off the motor. Gone. As far as a hiker or a hunter and a dog go the deer is spooked. All you hunters know exactly the feeling of junping a big daddy buck or bull. That is what the deer feel."

We are good at changing the subject arent we? :D

I've recalled reading several threads where we started out taking about oil filters and 6 messages down the topic has changed to skid marks in your underwear :D?

Yamakaz, I get the idea you like the hot topics! :D

Back on topic. Here in Mo. the law says land is marked by both No Trespassing signs and also by purple paint used for markings. So the excuse of signs being torn down frequently don't cut it for excuses. You just have to look for noticable markers. We learned this with a trespasser who was riding on our land. This is with the signs up. Had I got home in time and my wife hadn't taken care of it, I may have been inclined to staple a sign to his forehead. Oh well. So we painted enough trees with purple marks I get worried about trespassing driving to the house. Moral of the story, if you get your a$$ chewed again for tresspassing. Offer to buy them a can of paint to shut em up ?

There are no warm feelings between hunters and dirtbikers

Hey Fred, You're gonna give me a complex here! :D

I love to hunt as much as I love to ride. They actually compliment each other. I use my bike on Indian summer days to get deep into deer country and carry my tree stand and bow.

When anti-everything lunatics(who are almost always anti-gun AND anti-motorcycle) just get to be too much, few things relieve stress like going to the target range and rockin' 'n rollin' full-throttle with the (still legal) AR-15 I bought ONLY because Bill Clinton said I couldn't....unless its going to the track with the WR and doing the same thing! :D It's a BLAST!! Respect Life. LIVE yours to the fullest!

I've had trail riders come by my stand (usually 4 wheelers). It only bothers the deer for a few minutes.

?

[The NSA has intercepted this communication and is even now informing the BeerBullets&Nicotine boys to join forces w/IDiOT against this pissed-off, semi-auto weapon owning, 80,000lb hazardous material hauling, dirtbike riding, sex with the lights on (or off), :D , American who suffers from the illusion that the Constitution means something!]

Hi again!

Just to make things clear: I do not have anything aginst hunting or hunters. What I do not like is an idiot with a gun (saw enough of those in the Army) - hunter, criminal, clerk, astronaut, baker whatever, there is no need for no dumbass with a deadly weapon.

For all I care You boys can pack as much heat as You like (and I am NOT saying You gentlemen are any of the above). Hell carry a bagfull of guns if that makes You feel better.

What makes me feel better is living in a place where (almost) no one carries. I dont have to worry about getting shot every now and then - I dont have to carry to "protect myself".

That said and done, I have been a member of a shooting club, I like shooting (and hunting) and am still certain that the Swedish way is better than the US way.

Just because the right to carry a gun was instituted some 220 years ago doesnt make it the solution for good living today.

Back to issue ? MOmilkman, You did the right thing. Maybe you were trespassing, but the geezer never explained, just cussed and ranted and when You turned Your back he started to pull a gun on You - I am glad nothing worse came out of that incident.

Kepp riding :D

See ya,

///Fredrik

Yes, you are correct. Someone I find out on my back 40 would be treated this way. Someone I find wandering around my yard in the middle of the night will be talked to from behind cover looking down the wrong end of a .45.

What I was refering to was the fact that the man decided to pull a gun when MOmilkman was walking away. If the person walks away, there is no threat.

This second amendment thing is a load of baloney for the 21'st century. The big problem is that there are so many guns in circulation and so many crazies in the US that there is no practical solution. Coupled with the fact that the second amendment is taken VERY seriously by many folks, and with gun laws in some states that enforce and support its 'purpose' its a historical vicious circle with no end.

What other CIVILISED country in the world has laws and a constitution that would lead someone to even THINK they have the RIGHT to SHOOT YOU for TRESPASSING ?

Even the COPS in the UK dont carry except in specific circumstances and areas. An exception true but also an example.

I'm just glad I dont have to worry about it.

And yeah, I would probably own a gun if I lived in the US. What choice do I have ?

1. Private land is private land, posted or not. If you are riding on land, it is YOUR responsibility to know you are on public land or have permission. Or even parking.

2. Just because you didn't litter, tear up his land, etc., doesn't mean he hasn't had constant problems with litter, drunks, riding tearing up his land.

3. If his land is being misused (means any use the landowner doesn't want), he drove up with a right to be mad.

4. You boys that pack or even own guns have every moral and constitutional right to have them but please quit talking about them. Instead keep them out of sight. Maybe bury one or two (deadly serious here). Because we don't live in a constitutional democracy anymore and if they know you have one, they will come and get it one day. Despite the 'over my dead body' rhetoric, its easier to not let the world know you have it than to die not giving it up. Besides, we may need you one day.

5. In most states hunting from a vehicle is illegal, including getting out/off of the vehicle to shoot, so be careful. Rangers have lots of 'helping hands' out there. What is nobody else's business is often reported by 'concerned citizens'.

6. A buddy of mine pointed this out to me and I've been pissed off since. People move out to the country and (or maybe to) enjoy their neighbors' land and immediately post the hell out of theirs. I'm in town now, but I think we need a new level of post law that would allow anyone access unless they have land that is posted.

Saturday March the 6th, it looked to be a great riding day and it was. Just slightly overcast about 50 degrees and the rain was not supposed to roll in until Saturday night late sometime. My cousin on a DRZ and I on my trusty WR400 made it to what looked to be a great place to park, unload and take off for a great day of riding. About 8:45 a.m. we unloaded in a very wide open area just off the highway. Trails led in 3 directions from the spot we parked and it was right next to the highway. Otherwise you were looking at about 3-4 miles of dirt road before you reached the campground area. We were not camping and there were others parked in this area so we figured why not.

It had rained the past week so there wasn’t much mud but when you did run into a little mud it was the tackiest, stickiest, stuff you ever seen. It almost had the consistency of Play-Dough.

About 2:00 p.m. I decided we better head back to the truck and load up. After all, we put on 50 miles and that’s about all the mileage this aging body can take. Plus I had a 3 and a half hour drive home.

After arriving at my truck and loading up we jumped in the truck (Ford Ranger 2.3 Liter) and pulled out to the highway. I looked to my left and seen this truck coming down the highway in my direction. It was nothing out of the ordinary until he pulled up next to me (real close) and blocked most of my access to getting on the highway. I sat there for a minute and wondered what in the world he was doing. So my cousin jumped out of the truck just to ask what he was doing and he jumps out looking like someone just pissed on his Post-Toasties. So I get out, (still calm at this point) and walk up to him and before I could utter a word he looks at me and says “What do you guys think you are doing on MY land?” (In a very gruff voice I might add) So I am thinking to myself, there are no Private Property signs, no Keep out signs, no No Trespassing Signs, nothing, nada.

So I look at him and said “So this is your land eh?” He looks back almost ready to spit and said “You Da*n right its my land!” So I’m thinking were riding in a National forest, people park here all the time, this guy is about 70-75 years old. Hes just a crazy, insane, old man. I turned to him and said “So all these trails leading from this area, You own these trails??” Without hesitation, “Yes I do!!!” So I add, “So basically what you’re telling me is you’re the government?”

From this point on he starts his serious cussing, “Why you silly son of a B***h!!!” he yells.

I turned to my cousin “Come on Lance, let’s go, we don’t have to listen to this redneck hillbilly.”

He snapped back “The hell you say!” Then as I was walking away from him back to my truck I saw him open the door to his truck but I just thought he was leaving. My cousin yells out, “Dude! Look out! He’s getting his gun!”

So by this time we are both in the ranger and he is standing about 10 feet in front of my truck unzipping the case that held his handgun. I had the truck running already so I didn’t have to start it. I thought to myself, if this guy draws this gun, I’m flooring this beast of an engine and if he’s in the way I am taking him out because I am not going to let someone draw a gun on me.

So as he was sticking his hand into the case I dropped the clutch, hammered it down and headed for him. He dropped the gun in his panic and I’m pretty sure I ran over the gun and as I looked back in my rearview it looked as if he was pointing his gun at us and was going to fire. I was ready to get down below the dash while driving and drive blindly for a few seconds if I had to but luckily he didn’t get a shot off and I drove like a mad man al the way back to Fayetteville, AR.

And this was all just because we PARKED on his “supposed” land. We didn’t litter, trash it up or tear it up in any way. You never would have known we were there.

I don’t need many more riding day like this because I think this day took about 10 years off my life.
