Hi everybody!

During the past few weeks I've been considering to buy a new or used Honda XR650R. In Ukraine (where I live) there is no chance to find one. So I have to look to US websites and auctions for a proper model. The ideal would be a motard so I could use it as an enduro and a motard as well (anyway I would build a motard too since it's better for street using).

A few days ago I found some bike in a good conditions and low miles. It's 2001 year model, a bit more than 5K miles on the odometer. The seller converted it to motard but saved all original parts too.

But the main problem is that I'm a first time buyer of such vehicle. I would be very grateful for everybody who can advice if this model good enough to buy. The seller wants $4K. Is that a reasonable price? As I know I could buy for $5K some 06-07' new model but not converted to motard...

I've attached some photos at the bottom. Please look and tell what do you think about. Great thanks in advance! After.JPG rt side.JPG rear 3.JPG - open.JPG top view_.JPG vent 1 .JPG

BEWARE of something that just seems to good to be true, that bike looks like its got 4K invested into it. My first reaction is its some kind of scam since its out of country deal. I dont wanna rain on your parade as thats a sweet bike but $4k just sounds odd. SO becareful and do a little talking to the seller and see what all the circumstances are.

Good Luck AND WELCOME TO TT Ukraine DAM thats far away LOL

Contact the seller, ask to talk to him, find out what he needs to get for it, and make an offer. You also need to contact the nearest Motorcycle shop to him regarding shipping, or a pick-up shipping service, and get an estimate. You will want to crate the bike, and insure it for $ 10k too.

The bike looks exceptionally clean and tricked out, and on the west coast it would sell for $ 5k+, if CA plated.

I was selling it. Sold it. A real pisser to have to let it go (and embarrassing, cuz I needed the money), but you gotta do what you gotta do.

A guy in Edmonton, AB (up close to Old_Man) bought it. I am pleased it brought $4900, but they still got a great deal. I had close to $8k in it and it was/is in primo shape.

That's okay, the sun will come up someday soon and I'll get another bike and do-er again. Life goes on. "I'll be back..." :banghead:

Thanks to all who gave the compliments, and to my new friend in the Ukraine, Vitaliy ("sv-k-316"), who tried valiantly to make the winning bid.

Off topic: Speaking of the Ukraine, for those of you who are unfamiliar with that good country, do yourself a favor and google "Yulia Tymoshenko", the current Prime Minister of Ukraine. In my humble opinion she is the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on!! Wow.

InternalCombustion, very sorry to hear that you had to sell your bike.
I hope it goes to a good home. Real shame, you had that bike looking tip-top.

Anyways, I hope that 2008 is a good year for you, and you will be back riding a big XR again real soon.

PS. Yulia is a fittest Prime Minister I have ever seen! Ronald would have gone nuts if our Margaret had looked like that. Perhaps our two natons would be one now if she had.

XR650 is a good choise and it doesn't need very expensive services! however it is better to buy a newer model. as far as the price, this depend from the country that exist the moto, for example 5,000$ for a XR650 in USA is expensive, in GREECE is not, is very reasonable.
