A couple of weeks ago some XR650R riders from the Yahoo group got together for a weekend ride in Goreman. We named this weekend ride Pig Fest. Five riders showed up to ride on Saturday, three others showed but could not find the group and three of us stayed to ride Sunday. It was allot of fun. The reason I am telling you all this is that we
are planning another "Pig Fest" and want to invite anyone interested. It looks as if it will be in late November at Jaw Bone Canyon in California. If anybody is interested reply to this and I will keep you posted as soon as things jell. Of course all are invited, not just fellow pig wrestlers.

I've never been to Jaw Bone but I drive right by it on my way to Death Valley. If I wasn't going to be in Baja for the race I would love to go. Next time you plan another trip post it and I'll go.

I tried geting on the XR650R.net site and I get a pop-up add every 5 sec. Forget that noise.

How far is Jawbone from Vegas?

Also got a question on that Republic of Kalifornia Green sticker stuff. If I'm from out of state and got my bike street-licensed in NV, do I have to mess with any Kalifornia fees or stickers? :)

Here's the skinny as it is at this point. November 22,23,24 at Jaw Bone Canyon CA. Someone has a campsite already picked out and maps are in the works. There will also be signs "Pig Fest" to help guide the way.

THIS IS NOT AN ORGANIZED EVENT NOR IS IT SPONSORED OR ENDORSED BY ANYONE. THERE WILL NOT BE ANY EMERGENCY SUPPORT OR CLEAN UP RIDERS. OFF ROAD MOTORCYCLING IS A DANGEROUS ACTIVITY THAT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH. PARTICIPATE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Foobar,

A street license overides the need for a green sticker in California. You should be fine. It probably wouldn't hurt if you have a Nevada Drivers License to go with that Nevada registration.

Jawbone/Dove Springs is about 185 miles from Vegas. You'd want to come down the 15 South to Barstow then take the 58 West to Mojave and then the 14 North to Jawbone/Dove Springs. It's a great area. I've been riding there for 20+ years. You can always find something new (it's huge) There is a real nice loop that takes you from Dove Springs up Piute Mt. into the forest about 7500' up in the pines and comes down Jawbone Canyon Rd. back to the flats near the freeway. Stop at the visitors center at the intersection of Hwy. 14 and Jawbone Canyon Rd. when you get there and get a map of the area. It's got every trail in the area listed on it.

FYI, this is all open desert, you don't need to make a reservation for camping. Just drive in and find your favorite piece of dirt and call it camp!! If you wan't a real campground, there is one just off the 14 between Jawbone and Dove Springs. (Ricardo Campground) You usually don't need a reservation there, as it is usually quite empty all year.

Sounds like a fun weekend.

KS,
Thanks for the clear and concise directions. I tried slapping JawBone into RandMcNally.com and it came up with some place up near Fresno. That's a little bit out of my way, but I was able to find the Ricardo Camp on my Garmin MapSource CD. Comes out to about 250 miles. Zooming in on Jawbone looks like plenty of trails for riding. I'm sure it will be a fun trip. Who ever establishes a base camp, Lat/longs will be appreciated.

Thanks also on the sticker skinny.

WHATS UP? YOU CAN COUNT ME IN. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GO ON A GOOD RIDE FOR A WHILE. I AM ABOUT TO GET MY BIKE BACK FROM BAJA DESIGNS AND WOULD LOVE TO RIDE WITH YOU GUYS. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF WHERE THAT PLACE IS. HOW FAR IS IT FROM ORANGE COUNTY, I WILL BE RIDING THE BIKE SO HOPEFULLY IT'S NOT TO FAR. EVEN IF IT IS I WILL STILL GO. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED AND LET ME KNOW ANYTHING ELSE THAT WOULD HELP ME PLAN FOR IT. MY EMAIL NICKANGEL777@AOL.COM

You might want to rethink that one. Drive time, as I remember it is about two hours from your area. What will you do about gas when you get there? Camping gear? Food? We would love to have more participants but I think riding out there is unrealistic.

Man, I gotta tell ya'll how bummed I am that I'm not there to join you all. I was stationed at Edwards AFB, until last July. I've ridden all around where you all are going, and I really do miss it. I could ride to jawbone, from my house, and besides crossing the highway, not touch any pavement.
Anyway, my spirit is with you guys...I hope that you all have a safe ride and a good time. Somebody wave a flag for me eh?

Did any one go to the Pig Fest? I was planning on it but threw my back out a few weeks ago and am trying to nurse it back into shape. Need to get to the gym more and out on the BRP.
