Part 2 Tricks

If you have the first part down it's time to start thinking about what tricks you want to start with.
I can't stress enough this is only done when you take off and land right every time you hit the ramp.

To start just try 1 footers, do them smoothly and try it with each leg. once you have that down, start doing no footers. For now keep your hands on the bars.
These tricks will help you get bike controle , your next trick is the fender kiss. start off by just jumping and trying to put your face to the front fender, as you get this down start to bring the front fender to you as you put your face to it, this also teachs bike controle and will hepl teach you how to "work" the bike in the air.

The next trick is the 1 hander, Stay loose as you hit the jump, as you feel comfortable bring your hand ( i sugest your left hand) off the bar a little bit, keep doing this untill you can put your hand on the side of your helmet and hold it for a bit. from there we move on to bigger stuff..

Bigger tricks.
The next trick you should try is the ancle hook,
to do it simply hit the jump as you normaly would. As you near the peak of your jump start to bring your feet up, right up untill you touch the handelbars with your feet.

This trick is the basis of the cliffhanger, Jackhamer ( full extention cliffhanger) ,cordova and , stripper. Don't try any of the tricks listed. I'm just giving the reason for doing the ancle hook.

The first "real" trick you should conseder is the heelclicker. You don't need to be as flexable as you may think. basicly it's a glorified no footer. To safley learn this we start with putting your bike eather in a truck, on the trailer or tied down in a way the bike will not move and you can move around on the bike. the best way to do it is tied down in a pickup.
Heres what to do and do it with boots on.
1- stand on your pegs as if you where riding
2- jump off of the pegs and do a no footer,
3- continue this untill you feel loose and you can do a no footer and bring your feet back to the pegs.
4- now try to bring your feet up over the bars, continue to do this untill you can touch your heels together.
5- once you can do this start trying it over the jump

This was my first big trick on my 1997 CR80 back in like 1997. If you or a friend has a trampoline this is huge for learning tricks. When you take off your crappy stock bars, save them, take them to the trampoline (put grips on them so you don't cut yourself). Hold the handle bars as if you were on a bike, then start jumping, once you get comfortable jumping start trying to do a heelclicker it is essentially the same exact feeling doing it in the air on a bike and approx. the same amount of time. The benefit of doing it on a bike though is that you can actually force yourself back toward the pegs if needed. The heelclicker can be done very quickly and even if you do mess up or catch your leg (which I did do when I started doing them) you have a good chance of riding it out. The trampoline technic also is decent for cancan (or no footed), Rodeos, and you can practice saran wraps.

there is a good slow mo shot of a me doing a heelclicker in this vid. You can change the style to your liking, if I have to do a fast one it ends up looking like this video, were you basically just move your legs, if I have more time I can lift my legs higher and lean my upper body back and push my pelvis toward the bars for a larger extension.

You are right, I am not sure why a Mod hasnt done it yet.

Nice info all of you guys!

IT really helps and give the motivation to some of us (atleast me)

One question though. I was practicing and everytime I do a trick with me off the bike, my hand ALWAYS pulls the throttle in the air. Caused a few crashes. How do I make sure I can stay concentrated on the Trick and let off the throttle? I hope you know what I mean. lol

It sounds like you may not be 100% confedent when you try your trick. I would jump the jump you are doing tricks on a lot more, just getting the feel down. Once you get it right every time and it has become second nature you should automaticly not have the problem you are having. I've said it many times, seat time. Just ride and take your time.

Im gonna do some practice today. I need to get more use to this 250f. its been a while since I rode.

How much air time you thinks good for a decent trick? I try pulling them atleast at 30ft but feel like I take to long and the landing comes fast

I just need practice. argghh

it depends on the angle of the take off. If you have a decent amount of float time it is easyer then a 100ft jump with little float or hang time.

ok dave, so ive been riding for about 2years now.. i dont go too frequently so maybe consider it about a year lol. anyways, theres a few jumps on th mx track and a few natural ones at the parks i go to (metcalf, carnegie, hollister) that i find myself comfortable jumping. i am able to do 1 footers, no footers, 1 handers, no handers, and just recently i did a 1 handed no footer. scared the crap outta myself on that one because the first 2 attempts i wound up floating off the bike too much and landing with my feet somehow on the seat, dont ask how lol cuz i just dont kno haha :bonk: anyways, im working on that but am now considering the nac nac until im comfortable of lettin th bike go again like that. any tips for me? i eventually want to be able to do a "nothing" but i kno im not quite comfortable yet, which is why i tried the 1 handed no footer first. also, any tips for the nothing for when im comfortable in attempting it??? thanks a ton!!:worthy: o and heres a few pics of my no handers to show my level, and im also riding an 05 CRF230

well if u want to do it in steps then u could start by putting ur knee on the seat until u get comfortable then go for the full nac nac

o no trust me, its true alright! i jus give th throttle a little blip mid air before lettin go and it works out just fine.. ummm, not 100% if i want to or not, (tbh idk if i even have the balls or not lol), but its a lot of fun..i dont get to go riding a whole lot tho because i work weekends so im just out there enjoying it when i do go.. th tracks are fun too, and as fun as it is messin with th 250 guys it can be a bummer being down on power against them so maybe thats why im a lil more drawn to fmx...
