Jardine vs FMF Q2

Recommended Posts

what should i buy, cant find much on the jardine. i have an xr650r bored to 680, stage2 hotcams, edelbrock, drilled out side cover now i need me some exhaust, i would really like a full system to help it breathe better. i want the best performance to sound ratio, i need to still be able to ride on the street without catching piggys attention too much, but want that deep throaty sound. any help is appreciated, thanks for your input.

I have used the Q2 on a couple bikes and while the sound is deep and mellow, there is virtually zero performance gain over a stock pipe. Some folks even claim they lose power on the top end. I am running a Supertrapp external disc racing exhaust on my 650L. While it is loud with the 12 discs installed, I have noticed a positive power gain across the whole powerband. The FMF Q2 looks good, sounds great but it doesnt perform very well. I am curious, is the Jardine the pipe frequently sold on Ebay?

OR as an alternative maybe look at the White Bros E2 series and the little spark arrestor insert takes some sound out with very little power loss and if you wanna be loud and proud you can just keep the SA out, there quality and i have one on a quad and love the sound. Just a little suggestion

I have run the WB E2 and now currently the FMF Q2 on my 650L and while the WB was louder (that is all it was) I noted no power difference between the two, the FMF Q2 is a gain over stock in my humble opinion and not a whole lot louder. The WB E2 is LOUD and expensive. Oh and the WB tech support sucks too. I had to redrill the spacer mount to make it fit, asked them for a new one etc with zero respsonse. FMF answers the mail and or a phone call same day. My $ goes to FMF.

didnt the spark arrestor give you a few les db's? Mine wasnt expensive i got it for $225.

DONT get me wrong i am a die hard FMF guy from day one that i started racing MX they were the first and only to give me sponsorship when i was a teen racer, i have had FMF on all my 2Ts to date actually and that starts back to my bikes from late 80s

yea I guess so - but I like the sound of the FMF Q2 as compared to the blaster Brrrp sound of theWB E2, also the FMF looks alot better, almost like it came stock on the bike.

the best you can buy is staintune. never needs repacking.

ya know I have yet to repack the FMF powercore IV on my XR250R, been on there close to mmmmmmm 18 months or so and sounds the same! I have a repack kit on hand though.

For Lil' Red (my 04 XR250R) that FMF Poowercore IV really woke up that motor, I am still impressed everytime I ride it, crisp throttle response right from the bottom - plenty of low end torque for the gnarly twsity trails, especially uphill, and lofts the front end at a twist of the grip. The stock pipe on it is like riding a totally different and oh so inhibited machine - I guesstimate a 30% increase in power with the FMF powercore IV on it and 135 main and 48 pilot jet and UNi filter and airbox open including the filterscreen removed. It's no CRF250 - but it is a really fun bike to ride and an all day grinner!

I think so, too, but it has no spark arrestor. If you don't go off-road, then get that. They're gorgeous! Not cheap, but PRETTY!

Here in Cali, I like being able to off-road a little, so the Q2 it is. NO prob with the piggies. Nice, deep sound, but a lot less top end than I had with the original, way loud, ticket getting FMF before it. It was just too frickin' loud for the city! I put in a smaller 165 main for the restriction, now I'm thinking of putting the 175 back in, just to see.

I have the same set-up on my supermoto race bike

680-stage 2 cam-12:1 comp -edlebrock carb- and a FMF powerbomb header witha 2.5 inch can i made out of a supertrap muffler for a car

Pic below(sorry wrong side but all i have)

anyways

IMO-probably one of the best exhausts you can buy(especially to increase your top end performance is a Big gun exhaust-as far as I know-no other company takes the time to route the header the way they did it-i just bought one too to replace my FMF-altough the FMF is good-i thinbk the big gun has an edge over all others
