Has anyone had to replace a stator on a 2008 YZ450? My son has a new bike with 4 rides on it and it looks like the stator needs to be replaced already.

It stinks to have issues like that new.

Talk with your dealer about that. Yamaha may step up.

Definately check with your dealer, there have been a couple of failures in our area.

The bike is hard to start and wants to backfire and stall. Our 2007 did the same thing and it was the stator. I am going to put the stator off of our 2007 bike and try it to see if it works.

you need to get out your meter and check the stator and that will tell you for sure. unfortunately stator failures are somewhat common on 450s from what ive seen, especially the yamahas. i think you need to check the brown and green leads in the connector coming out of the stator, but check in your manual.

Since it's not a hard failure, testing may return normal results. use an analog VOM and tap the case with a hammer while reading, or remove the stator cover and jiggle the leads and coils to see if something makes the needle move.

I hate to say it but we must have gotten some bad fuel the last time we rode on 12-23.

I tried a stator and coil from our other bike and that didn't fix it. I then tore apart the carb and cleaned it and that got it to run a little better. I then took it to a friend and he drained the fuel and put fresh fuel in it and it runs great now.

Lesson learned not to buy fuel from the same place again.

It always started good until the bad fuel problem. Since we emptied the tank, it starts well again.
