so its about time for me to replace the clutch on my 2000 426.

im gonna do the 2001 chageover, to get rid of the grab...but i was wondering of i should get yamaha parts, or are the EBC, tusk, etc. clutch kits any good?

the bike is used for supermoto only.

I've had the best luck with Tusk. I have a Rekluse thats kind of hard on friction plates and the Tusk hold up just fine.

You can't go wrong with OEM either, but its probably twice as much money.

when i did my 426s clutch i used a new oem inner hub, EBC dirtracer clutch kit, and a hinson pressure plate. The hinson pressure plate is worth the price

i was looking at the EBC dirtracer.

now im wondering, if i can keep the other OEM components, use the "EBC kit" for the 2001, and get rid of the grab that way. or are there other parts necessary for the 2000 to 2001 change/upgrade?

Yes, you will need the clutch boss spring & spring washer.

It will also be important that the plate kit be made for an '01 and later model because the first friction plate needs to be able to clear the "boss spring".

exactly what i needed to know. what number are they 13 & 14 right?

still undecided on the kit as of now. either the tusk or EBC.

Those are they.

Note that plate 12 is different from all the rest (8). The I.D. is larger. Most kits made for later bikes will accommodate the rings, but it's well to check as you assemble them.

gotcha. so im planning on getting a kit for the 2001 as well as the 2001 OEM boss spring and washer.

in theory, the kit should have all the correct plates, including the one thats different?

Go with all Stock OEM parts and you can't go wrong. One of the best Mods you can do for a 2000 426. I would personally avoid mixing and matching parts for the mod/fix.

i wouldnt say im mixing a whole lot. just need the couple OEM parts to update to 2001, then use a complete 2001 clutch kit.

Nice Pic...BTW That White Bro's E-Shorty has got to be an ear-bleeder. (It is on mine) Definately keep us posted. I don't think you are going to be disappointed.

I can testify, his bike is the loudest 426 I've ever heard. I've even seen people (not going to mention names) shove paper towels in their ears to keep from going deaf.

I will never forget that day...:banghead:

got her all put back with the 2001 parts. clutch is like butter compared to the 2000 version.

i ended up with the Tusk HD kit with springs. only needed a couple OEM parts. all under $100. best thing i coulda done. the starts are actually featherable!!

and with my MSR EZpull shorty lever, its so nice to be able to work it smoothly.

thanks everyone!!

now i need to replace my W/P seals and bearing.....that sprung a leak when i was test riding! :banghead: always something!!
