On my 650L, can I run 14/48 gearing with the original chain installed? Do I need a longer chain? I need a little slower gearing for the tighter trails in my area and I really dont ever need to do over 80mph. The 14/48 powerband just seems more useful. I am running 14/45 now, will the new 48 rear give me a slower putt-putt speed?

14/48 will work fine with the stock chain

yup putt putt is better and you can actuallu use 2nd gear in the woods! wheelies easier and is not very buzzy at highway speed of 55-60. I have run both and am going to try a 15 / 48 to see what that is like.

I'll second that! Second gear is now useable in the woods and the bike is easier to pop the front wheel over logs and such.

Back when I had a L I'd run the 15/48 and carey a 14.Ride pavment to the trails stop and put the 14 on and adjust the chain ride all day then swap back for the ride home.
