Wet........end of story. j/k

Took my son Steven out for his first ride in a long time. We rode all over starting from Rogers, about 45 miles. It rained about 50% of the time & sometimes had ice in it. Surprising traction, we rode up Ample & Alluring no problem, Archers stuff no problems.

We saw a lot of chainsaw work has been done on the roads. I think it was ODF but thank you, who ever it was. Trails don't look bad at all.

Here's the only pic of the day:

That's Hogs Back behind us. About 2 inches of snow was the most we saw. Made riding interesting.

We strayed too far from the vehicle & got a bit cold on the way back. Made a few stops to warm up the hands via the tail pipe. Mostly hands & feet were cold. Steven wore some face protection. I'm going to ask Santa for some long goretex socks for Steven & I.

Also met some inmates from Tillamook County(?). Anyway, we were about 5 minutes from rolling out & there's nobody else in the parking lot. This white van pulling a utility trailer pulls up & 5-6 guys jump out all wearing the same hooded sweatshirts. We're parked close to the John so they parked right next to us. Made me a little on edge but they seemed ok. They asked questions about the bikes & offered to help us load them, I declined. We talked to them a bit. They do trail work sometimes in TSF but were helping out the flood victims in Vernonia today. They seemed pretty proud of it too. I guess they were on the news yesterday but I did not see it. I gave them some praise for their work, which I think they needed. The guys all looked early 20's. Meeting these guys affected me. Seeing that they're taking pride in doing some good work & helping others makes me think they're not lost causes.

That's all.

Working with the inmate crews for years on the fire crew, those guys bust their asses off. The do, do alot of trail work, both motorized and non motorized. They are usually the onse that help do the major projects such as building bridges and what not. They are the ones that go around and clean the camp grounds and the restrooms.

My first season I was scared $#!tless on my first encounter, but most of those guys are in for very minor stuff. They do take pride in their work for what little credit they recieve. Those guys have all kinds of interesting stories to tell.

On a side note Steve, I am still trying to hook up with Randy, I haven't forgotten. This last storm has kept him really busy, everytimg I stop by he is out of the office.

Hey Steve. Last Sunday went out on QUADS for 60 miles to clean trails . Only found one tree that needed cutting and it wasn't on a main trail. Someone has been up cleaning around Boundry. So all I did all day was ride around on an 800cc Outlander. Bummer

We left that one 'cuz it was teensie.:p Or it fell after we went through. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

The truth is though, that racershaun got there before us and went all the way to headquarters intersection and swung north. We continued on to Bushong and then backed up to go down Bales Crk.

Not nearly as much blow-down as a year-ago November...which is good.

Awesome! Yah, if you got in 60 miles there wasn't much trail clearing. Sounds like a good time.

Is the outlander 4-wheel drive all the time?

Frying Eye u must be using those prototype trials tyres, as I saw no tyre tracks on that trail with the tree down. Stealth is good!

Toastie, Yea it will run in 2 or 4 wheel drive. In 2 wheel drive I'm sure I'd have to buy a set of rear tires every rear. With those Mud-Lites you don't want to get too close or you'll be wearing the trail on your face. Great for leveling out tank traps or draining mud holes. Am going out during week to find some reroutes and see what it will take to connect a couple roads to trails. Gramps

Understandable since racershaun and our party were out the weekend before your odyssey on your trap leveler.

We'll be rooting around the Murphy Camp area in the next 2 weeks to make a connection or two. We'll keep a look out for you.
