I'm looking at a Husky 390 with a California street registration. What are the chances of transferring that bike to Washington street legal?

Probly pretty good from Cali.
Unless they make you get an inspection.

Go in to a dmv for a dry run first and see what to expect.

Good luck!

Will blow right through! Like Eric said, do a dry run, use a sub agent. And if they catch it as off road, say "stop, hold everything" I was buying this as a road bike, if it cant be plated, I will return it to the seller (you can say the sale is pending on the condition it will transfer) and then take your stuff and head to another sub agent till its done. But being as its plated already, and coming from another state, it should'nt be an issue. And a Husky 390 is old enough, the VIN wont say anything ie off road etc. Just be sure to put in some miles in the odometer spot, we all know street bikes all have odometers. (this will pop up red flags if you don't) and use a number you wont forget, so if you resell it, the miles just has to be more for the next seller. We all know unless you run the bike in reverse, the miles should go up.

Thanks for the info. I think this bike already has an odometer with miles on it  Now I just need to win the auction. I am Sooooooo tired of being stuck with an overweight underpowered pig just to be street legal. And I like the old twin shock stuff I am actually faster on them than the new stuff:excuseme:

Ditto on going to a different sub agent. They all seem to run things a bit differently.

Somewhat off topic....

I recently went to register a 71 Chevy truck that I got for 1500 bucks. After asking what kind of condition it was in, the sub agent that I usually go to got out a 'blue book' and found that it was worth much more (3500?) in perfect condition. Even though it was only in OK condition they were going to charge me tax on the 3500 instead of what I actually paid! They said it was a 'classic' and was worth more than I paid.

I told them to forget it. I went to another sub agent and went right through, no questions asked about condition or anything.

Do these guys make a commission off of how much tax they charge?

Ah, here is the kicker, its not considered a sales tax, we all know you are taxed on the amount you paid for it. But now they are treating it like a property taxed, ie assessed value. If it was a sale tax, they HAVE to charge you tax on only the $1500 you paid for it. Just another sneaky way around it. Heck, the same line of thinking, you can get something on sale, at lets say Home Depot, like maybe a 50% off on clearance, now imagine them charging you taxes on the full blown MSRP, its irritating. Now wait till you have to get a new plate, you will see a brand new made up charge. Yes, in addition to the $20 (which is way more then it used ot be) you will now get dinged for an additional $4 for... you ready for this.... "plate reflectorization fee" (is that even a real word???). Its insulting my intelligence. Why dont they just say its $24 for a new plate. Anyone ever figure our what "other" is??? Its usually the most expensive part on your tabs. They wont tell you. Call DOL in Olympia, they will tell you its private. :bonk: :bonk: :bonk:

MFT, did you win the auction? And if so, we need a follow up report on the WA title transfer.

No I didn't. The guy that owned it raised his own minimum bid and took the buy it now price off. I suspect he made a deal outside of e-bay and wanted to chase everyone off before the auction ended.
