Alot of military folks here have out of state plates.  As long as you have a plate, the associated paperwork and meet the state of florida equipment requirements you should be fine.  As you stated your bike is titled and plated allready.  Check with the local tax office for details.

Sure, except you've got sales tax, licensing and taxes to consider. Cost me $500 to get my used SuperHawk titled/plated.

CA has all sorts of laws regarding out of state vehicles...if your primary residence is in CA, you have 10 days to register it. Operating an out of state vehicle with CA drivers license can bring a fine of around $500. Owning property in another state is not enough....they go by the primary residence, or if you are gainfully employed here you have to register here. So if you have an out of state drivers license, you can get away with it for a while, but you still need the equipment on the bike for highway use.

The other possibility is "borrowing a bike temporarily" from someone living elsewhere, although they even have laws covering borrowing for an extended time. And you can forget about trying to register out of state an bringing it into CA later, you won't be able to register here without an EPA sticker.

I think I'll just move to Arizona.....

So weird. I live in Mass but keep a bike at the house in Maine. I went to regester it IN MASS and pay MASS INSURANCE rates and the insurance company refused to process my request due to the fact that the bike is primarily garaged in Maine. I "had to" insure and register it there. The Town Clerk laughed her ass off at the stupidity of it and cheerfully took my money. I used the same insurance company as I would have if I had regestered it in MA. at a MUCH lower rate. I don't even understand. The bike is a factory DS so that's not an issue either state.

in cali the front turnsignals have to be a minimum of 8" from center of headlite and the rear just has to be on the left and right of tail light. many cops will try to say the rears need to be out from center like 8" also but they are wrong look at ca, dmv section 800 for the motorcycle codes

i can tag a bike in Fl. it's pretty hard but it can be done.

Im guessing Hawaii is way off too. Both those charts don't list half the stuff I need. Got an 07 450X that I want to get plated and from what I hear I need everything and it all has to be DOT approved. Anybody out there plated a dual sport bike out in hawaii or know someone who has. Could use some tips on passing this safety inspection. Mahalo

From what I understand, once you have the bike set up with the equipment outlined in MI for TR-54, you take it to any police department for them to inspect. The police department will inspect the bike to ensure that it has all of the items outlined on the form, and also will confirm the VIN number. You then take this form and your title to the Secretary of State and that should be it.

I've spoken to the people at the Secretary of State, and they have stated that this is all that is required. I haven't tried this yet, but hope to do so within the next few months.

Yes, you are correct. I have been through the process and it is an easy process. I took my 03 YZ 450f to the Michigan State Police for inspection because I figured it would be more difficult for anyone at the Secretary of State to argue with me.

Just some notes note about Washington state:

1) Turn signals are only required if they come with the bike - i.e., you can't take them off, but if they weren't on the bike going out the door of the dealer, you don't have to put them on.

2) WA state and others, like Oregon, are clamping down on licensing of dual sport conversions of bikes that were not sold as street legal bikes. Have been for ten years.

If the MSO or title states 'off-road use only' or something to that effect, then you might as well forget it. You might get the plate. You might even be able to renew the tags for a few years, but eventually they will kick it back at you - sooner or later. If you get it past the licensing clerk because they weren't paying attention, eventually it will be flagged and rejected.

Yes, some people have skated by, but many more haven't.

My title does not say anywhere on it "for off-road use only" or anything like that.. 1998 WR400.. Is there a certain place in the vin that is designated to represent this? Ive seen that mentioned a few times, but am unsure of what to look for.

any body hae one titled in Ohio. My DMV said they dont do that if it did not come with a street title. I have a MSO that is dirt only
