I recently had to go through the big mess of trying to find out the regulations of modifying an offroad bike and making it street legal in Connecticut. Since the link does not work I figured I would post the regulations form that I got from the DMV.

Hope this is helpful.

Looking over the California info I don't see the minimum distance between turn signals regulation, which made the UFO fender with inset indicators illegal.  Maybe its no longer an issue here.

It was 13" front and 9" rear. I can't remember how I know that:thinking:

Thanks for the info. It is very difficult to plate an off road onlybike here in NC. Thats why I have the XR.

Wow, that's not what I've heard on TT.  Yanni23 has plated a CRF and now a Husky 2-stroke.  If you can plate a 2-stroke dirt bike, you should be able to plate anything in NC.

It does say a bike in NC needs a passenger seat and pegs but KTM doesn't have them. It also doesn't come wih a head light. It has a mouse with a candle stand on the front fender. For high beem it just stands up:lol:

Just to let you know there have been changes since June 2008 when this list was compiled.  Utah now requires blinkers on MC's manufactured after 1/1/73.
For any MC to considered street legal, regardless of the state it is licensed in.

No turn signals or speedometer required in New Jersey? I don`t think that`s right. New Jersey laws are very tough. Is this list 100% accurate?

If you are talking about the chart at the beginning of the the thread no it is not correct that's why alot of people have posted their own findings. The rules about regulations change constantly.

From my personal experience at NJ inspection, they check signals, headlight hi/lo, horn and brake light.  I've never needed a speedometer.  I also never went to inspection without signals.

greetings, CT. is not so hard. I just plateted my 98 WR 400   the bike came from the factory with a "not for highway" , or "off road only"title restriction,I applied for a MODIFIED OFF ROAD MOTERCYCLE  inspection. here's the catch, you cant find the document INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS, MODIFIED OFF ROAD MOTORCYCLE on line. you must go to the inspection lane at wethersfield where a friendly DMV inspector will hand you one. good luck trying to get one mailed to you:P

Yea here in Illinois, unless it's sold as street legal, no mods you do will make it so.

No can do!  I allready been down this road.  If your MCO/Title states "for off road use only" your doomed.  The VIN # will not work in the DMV system.  Unless you want to get a OHV title for riding in varoius OHV parks/trails. My advice, sell it and get a KTM/DRZ/WR or something of the sorts if you want street legal in Florida.

Here is another state by state breakdown for MC equipment requirements.  This one is current and updated as laws are passed.  Just click on your state.

Good luck.

Hello all, last week I tried to register my WR 450 in Carson City NV. and was turned down. The reason was because the VIN # reflected the bike was manufactured as off road only motorcycle. I would like to find out how many folks in this part of the world would like to see things change?

Does anyone know about military personnel stationed temporarily in Florida.  We are looking at taking an Oregon plated bike (Honda 450x) to Florida.  Does the registration need to be changed?   According to the above information the bike could not be street licensed in Florida.

Thanks very much.

Bob
