I've found in my area that things like passanger footpegs and seating, while required by law, are only enforced if you are carrying a passanger, not at plate inspection. And turn signals, if you know the correct hand signals, aren't always enforced either. Just depends on the state and how that officer feels that day. It's the govt., anticipate a little inconsistency, lazy mindedness and ignorance. In other words, know your stuff better than they do before going in.

I'm trying to get my 05 WR450F street legal in Colorado. It has original plastics and is stock except for some engine and exhaust mods. I found the current CO requirements but still have a few questions. I will still ride 95% trails and I anticipate dumping it several times... With that in mind:
1. Any Colorado Springs bike inspection locations? I really don't want to drive to Denver, especially after reading about some of the unfriendly fellas others have encountered.
2. Anyone have recent luck with a "bugle/squeaky horn" vs. a wired/electric one? I already have one from my old bike and don't want to wire (or buy) one just for an inspection. I thought I read about a battery operated one but do not recall the name of it and it's success in CO. As far as lifey safety arguments, it seems to me plenty of drivers in their cars can't hear an emergency/fire/ambulance siren so how would they hear my horn?
3. Brake switch - I bought one a few years ago(no instructions), and yes, now getting around to installing it. The ends going to the tail light are two wires. I.e. - no "quick connector." After researching, I think I know how to wire it, but the wires appear to be too short. They don't reach the existing wires at the tail light where I thought I should cut the yellow wire and connect to it. The red wire I thought connects to the positive terminal at the battery is too short as well. Browsing vendor websites I found some for "Jap bikes" that appear to have a quick connect but don't specify what I need to do or if they'll work for my 05 year WR.
4. License plate bracket - as mentioned, I suspect my bike will be on it's side again. My friend thru-bolted to his fender(after losing several plates) and bent it somewhat vertical for officer viewing but I'd like to find a better solution vs. asking for trouble.
Let me know if I need to post elsewhere and thanks again for any help. I'm also looking for riding buddies in the area but that's another topic...
