It is however misleading if the reader assumes any bike so equipped will be issued a street license plate by the respective state's DOL! In many (most?) states if the manufactures MSO/title indicates "For Off-road Use Only" or something to that effect or the bike has been registered as an "ORV" you are probably SOL as far as obtaining a plate.

Yes you are correct in that aspect, but this is just a guide if your in the few that have an MSO that does not state "for off road use only". Just thought it would help to give you an idea what is required by each state as far as equipment is concerned.

I don't think it's too hard in IN. I've haven't done it yet, but know some who have. Add req'd equip, have it inspected to verify it's street legal, go to BMV and get it plated. As a matter of fact, I know a guy that wanted a street legal WR450F, so the dealer is intalling all the req'd equip and is going to get it inspected for him...all before he picks it up. Now that's service!

Here in NJ, it use to be pretty easy to get a plate for a bike, the state DMV, the DEP and all those that hate off road vehicles in "thier" woods, gather tons of info from posters on off road motorcycle websites, (including this one) to find out what people were doing to get around the grey areas and loopholes. They took it all and had the rules changed to prevent it from happening again.
So just a warning, be careful what you post...
