I am going to get my brother new seals and fork oil for x-mas. What is the stock weight for the oil and how much does each fork take?

I use Enzo 0-1 fork oil and the amount is 12 oz. I would also get him a set of bushings also. That oil amount is for the fork lowers....you should also change the upper fluid in the cartridges.

Not sure about the upper cartridges? Are there two separate oil reserves, one lower and one upper?

Any good fork oil, 5wt or lighter, will work fine. You will need about 40 ounces total, so buy two quarts.

Yes there are. The outers are filled with a specific volume of oil. The standard amount is 12 ounces, as Todd said. The fork is quite sensitive to small changes in the OC oil level, and you might make the fork noticeably plusher or firmer, even to the point of bottoming excessively or being harsh, by subtracting or adding as little as 5cc per side.

The inner chambers (cartridges) are filled completely full, to the exclusion of all air, so the amount is not specified in terms of either volume or a measured level. The manual calls for them to be filled to a particular level before assembly, but this assumes that some excess will be expelled as the cartridge is put together.
