I am looking for a set of 1996+ cr125/250/500 or crf250/450 forks and triples for a USD swap that i plan on doing on my xr400. I found a guy in the midwest that has parts but it is a long way to send money and hope that it gets there. I have found a bunch on ebay but they don't normally have the axles or brakes.
Any help would be great.

Bits i need:
Triple clamps (possible steering stem)
Forks
axle with spacers
wheel or wheel w/rotor
caliper.

For the steering stem i can either buy a special one or have the cr/crf one machined.
I can use stock xr400 brake line and controls. If i use a crf250x/450x, front wheel i can retain my odometer, but that isn't a huge deal to me.

Again even if you don't have the parts, but know somewhere where i might be able to find them, any information would appreciated.

Hoping to have this done by the d100 in april!

thanks folks

I had an xr400 with '89 cr250 inverted forks. They were probably the best forks I've ridden to date. The nice part about the 89s is you can do it with 100% OEM parts. No modifying at all...

sounds like it was a good mod, that is always reassuring. hahaha

o really? thats good to know. I just want the features of the newer forks. plus i got a guy back east that is going to sell me his modified steering stem and then all i have to do is by a bushing and then it is bolt together.

Ebay.

A lot of KDX riders do the fork swap to KX forks.

I paid $150.00 for a set.

Caution though when buying on Ebay. I bought a set of 2005 forks that turned out to be 2002's.

what parts did this entail? could you use the xr400 wheel and brakes? how easy was it?

I used 2000 CR125 forks and wheel, 01 CR250 clamps, a XR 400 stem with machined sleeves to fit the CR clamps, my stock caliper and brake line (Still runing my headlight so I needed the longer brake line)

Here is a thread on my project when I did it, that I posted on another forum.

You use your wheel and brakes. I think the only parts swapped were the clamps (use the same stem), forks, wheel spacers, and maybe the axle. You do lose the ability to use the OEM odometer. I can find out the exact details if you are serious about going this route.

I have a steering stem from emig racing for doing this conversion. I used it for an XR400 which I no longer have and somehow all I ended up with is the steering stem. I sold the bike with stock forks and then sold the cr forks without the stem. Let me know if you are still interested. The stem is in like new condition hardly used.
