Mounting a Vapor Computer on an L with a Scott's Damper

Recommended Posts

Has anyone here mounted a Vapor computer on an XR650L with a Scott's Steering Damper? If you have, how did you do it, and what kind of mount did you use (bought or fabricated)?

The reason I ask is that I have a Scott's Damper and a set of 409 CR High Bend bars that I'm going to mount this Winter and have heard there's problems with it and the stock instrument cluster and ignition location. I was thinking of replacing the stock setup with a Vapor computer and changing out and relocating the ignition switch.

If anyone has any experience with doing all or part of the above, I would appreciate any tips/pointers on how you did it and what you used for mounts etc.

Thanks! ?

i put a vapor on top of my GBR dampner. i took a small piece of 3/4" X 3/4" alluminum angle about 2" long; rounded the corners and drilled one hole on one side of one end and another exactly opposite of it. then i got a longer screw replaced one of the dampner's mounting screw. then mount the vapor to the piece then the piece to the dampner. i painted it black and you can barely see it.

i won't be home til the new year, but if you haven't figured it out by then i can send you some pics of mine

Hi when you get back if you could post pics that would be cool. I am going to put a scotts on a XR 600 R (plated) and i want to add a comp. The one I was looking at was a VAPOR With trip/odm/time even a reminder when to change the oil. At that time i will take off the orig trip meter and cable set up. I just like to see many other ideas ( if you have time)

Thanks in addvance....................Danny V

i put one on top of my steering stab. is all i did was make a little bracket out of angle aluminum about 1.5" long out of 1"x1" angle. rounded the corners off and drilled one hole on one end and one directly opposite of it. you can cut it down to make it look better and to compensate for whatever height you need. use the one hole and just get a longer bolt to go through the stab and mount your vapor using the included mounting bracket. i will be back to my bike in Jan and take some pics if you haven't figured it out.
