Pump Gas

Recommended Posts

Ok so it seems to be well documented that slow guys like me don't need race gas, although i do miss the smell. So here is my question, Is there one pump gas that is better than everyone else's. I am still toying with the idea of running a mix or race/pump as i hear it does make jetting a little less finicky.

Again i know i don't NEED race gas, i just want to know if there is one pump gas better than the rest. Shell, mobil, etc. I just mention mixing the race gas in to make it easier to jet. I am not looking for more power just better running. I think everyone agrees race gas is a better quality fuel at least i would hope it would be for the price. I don't think the teams run them for more power, just more consistent.

I use shell gas and its always been fine. I hear the chevron doesnt use ethanol. All the major brands of gas are fine. stay way from the small corner shop gas stations. As for race gas you can use vp u4 in a stock motor and see a gain in power. It has oxygen in the fuel which makes the boost.

Race Gas DOES produce more power than pump. U4 will give you close to 2 extra hp when jetted right due to the oxygen content. Not all race gas is high octane, either as U4 was 92 (mon).

In California, everyone selling gas in any but the most remote locations is selling the exact same premium gas. The only difference is the additive package. Any major brand should be fine, as long as it's fairly fresh.

California premium varies seasonally, but rarely contains more than 9% ethanol.

Race gas runs richer than pump gas and it does not give you more power it's for motors that have higher compression so it don't ping

Race gas runs LEANER than pump gas, thats why you have to fatten up the jetting when using straight race gas. My 08 shot flames like the Munster Mobile when using VP. I had to bump the main 2 sizes and pilot one size. And YES, it will give you a horsepower increase.

I suppose your referencing U-4?.....

GrayRacer are you and I must be the minority when it comes to what Race Gas provides? Too many so called internet experts here on TT will argue until their fingers fall off that Race Gas/U4.2 (the latest version from VP) is a waste of money and provides no power increase as well as messes up jetting.

Well I am here to tell all of you that VP U4.2 is the only fuel that goes into my tanks. Yes it is more costly but the power increase is much better than any pump prem gas period!

Jetting is not that big a deal usually 1/2 to 1 full step richer is all that is needed. I run a 170mj, 45pj w/o any issues for temps below 60

I do drain it from the tank and the carb after each days use -

To me all pump gas is equal -

For what I desire to enable me to ride faster with less effort, ....VPU4.2 full strength no mixing

If you must mix....VPC12 50/50 with pump gas works well also but as much power increase as U4.2

642MX, ethanol absorbs moisture, is corrosive, produces less power, drops fuel economy, spoils quickly, harmful to some seals and gaskets, and is a very dry fuel with no lubrication qualities. If you use 10% ethanol fuel regularly I would add something to it to protect your valves for longer life. Mike

My question in this thread is: I leave in Poland and I have few pump gases : 95, 98, 100 octan. Wich one is the best to use with yzf 426.

Price doesn't metter. Each one is 2 USD per 1 liter ;-) .

You only need enough octane to keep the engine from pinging. Try the 95, if it pings under a load, then try some 98. ?

Read and think what you want. But the fact is, 10% Ethanol is a good thing, not a bad thing. ?
Frankly, IMO, there isn't anything good about ethanol in any concentration, other than the slight additional octane, and that is usually offset by the fact that other octane elevating additives are omitted when ethanol is used.

It's hygroscopic, interferes with fuel stability, and reduces the energy content of the fuel. The only thing that can be said for it is that it does lower emissions (but so will any oxygenating agent), and at 10%, doesn't do anything harmful to the engine.
