Well I have been taking a break from riding lately.  So my older son wants to go practice at Mesa today and I figured what the heck and put my bike in the truck.  As I am typing this I have a "few" pain pills in me so pardon the typo's/rambling.

We get there to find out they have a race today (same day as Bithlo Summer Slam so not good timing).  The race started at noon and we got there at 11 am so we decided to sign up just to get some riding time.  I signed up for woods class and Sean the 450 expert.  Turn out was light but not to be unexpected with such little promotion.

My first moto I got a very good start and was second into the first turn.  Got passed twice in the first lap.  Saw the guy in front of me pull off and decided to make a charge to the front.  Cased a double and ended up stuck underneath the bike.  Finally got it off me but new my thumb/wrist was jacked up.  Got up and pressed on ignoring the pain.  Finished second (only 4 in class) however I think I had at least 5 or more years on everyone else.

Sean got a good start too only to go down in a turn.  He rode well but not at the pace as the leaders.

LONG break between first and second moto's so I iced the hand and contemplated whether or not I should do the second moto.  I went for it.  Rode well considering I had to take it easy on the jumps due to pain in wrist/hand.  Ended up second overall and got a free pass for another ride there.  It was fun and very laid back.  They said they would do more promotion next time they decide to have a race.

Sean got roosted pretty badly on the start for his second moto but got sand in his contacts so he had to pull off till he could see again.

It was a good practice for the upcoming MX FTR race if they still have it.

Track was good.  They definitely worked on the faces of the jumps and groomed it well before the race.

Not sure what the FTR HS holds for me.  Sean's fiance is due anyday with thier first child.  He moved out a couple of weeks ago so I was busy with that.  I might try the last HS and maybe the Apollo Enduro depends on how quickly my hand heals.

Well, congrates on the placing and damnit on the wreck. Pretty good deal only a few were there I guess so you could get some good track time with a little competition too.

Hey Mark, you always write a good report!  Sorry 'bout the hand & wrist, though. Hope you heal up quickly.

I got to ride my freshly refurbished , original owner VF 414 Montesa m/x'er  last weekend (on a post vintage friendly track) and jammed my knee pretty good. I didn't say anything at the time, but cut my riding time short because of it.

The knee reminded me how much I like walking a round without limping and pain free. Thankfully, it cleared up after a few days.

Also I was impressed they had a full complement of flaggers on the track and a ambulance with EMT's during the event.  Next time they hope to do more promotion and have a few more classes.

RB - Do you know about 32 to 1?  It is a website dedicated to restoring old MX bikes.  The guy who runs it is a friend of a friends.  He lives down in Vero Beach.  You ought to google the name and post up a few pics of your Montesa.  I am sure they would be glad to see it.  Not too many people can claim they are original owners of thier vintage bikes.

Speaking of vintage pipes, I brought the Montesa to NC with me, hoping to ride it at places like Wayahutta . I need to adapt a S/A and was thinking an old kx 500 , CR500,  or euro 2stk open classer   sparky could be made to work.  I'd appreciate if any one has a line on one would let me know.

I don't want it to be a permanent installation, just good enough to past the stick test by a Park Ranger.

TIA

Well, looks like eBay's loaded with S/A's for old open class bikes, new & used. I should've known.

Anyone in know of a place in Lake Wales to ride? I was told there is a guy that owns acreage and allows riders on his land for a fee but i never got the actual information or exact location. Croom is awesome but i'd like somewhere new and a little closer to home.
