Well I finally had to let the 2-stroke go and have now gotten a 2006 yz 450f. So could you guys please let me know the good the bad and everything else about the mighty four stroke? I do know that it is a hole lot faster than my 250 2-stroke was. Thanks for your help.

My opinion is that the 06 YZ450F is the best bike ever made. (But I own one) The suspension is awful, get it revalved for your weight and riding style and you will like it alot better. I also put the GYTR offroad flywheel in to help with low rmp stalls. The bike is a running machine. Have fun and becarful its fast.

i also own a 06 450 my favorite bike ever re jetted put good tires on it adjusted suspension for my style love the bike i did not get it revalved just adjusted what i had. my buddy has 250 2 stroke we are the same speed but my 450 will pull on him in a straight on small tight track they are the same happy riding

How much must you weigh to make a statement like that?

I've never ridden out of the box. stock suspension that was as good as the '06 YZ450. I remember thinking the first time I rode one, "There were a lot of bumps here this morning, weren't there?"

If you weigh between 165 and 190, try riding it and working with the stock clickers and oil levels before blowing a lot of money on the suspension.

The YZ's come with the best stock suspension of any of the Big four Jap. companies.

I have had my '06 since last year in Sept. I ride a lot of desert and sand. The bike is absolutley spectacular. I would keep a close eye on your timing chain. I know a lot of the '06's have had exesive stretching and this can cause an expensive tab. Sweetest bike I have ever owned. I weigh 230lbs and I just adjust the stock suspension settings also.

Thanks for the heads up. Has anyone else heard of timing chain problems?

I've seen YZ's and WR's with well over 200 hours on the stock timing chain....no problems. For the piece of mind however, replacing it when you do your top end the first time is a good idea. I'm talking like doing a top end at 100 hours.

No, IMO, they don't. They are different than CRF's which are different than RMZ's which are different than KTM's which are not the same as KXF's, however, and since all of us are different than everyone else, you find that we all don't like the same thing all the time.

It's funny, because the '06 handled great when it was introduced, and then in '07, a couple of mags started talking about how bad they pushed. Then the others jumped on the wagon, and before you knew it, people who never knew they had a problem all of a sudden had a problem.

Recently, one member of this forum has expressed disliking certain aspects of the '06's turning character, and so decided to by another brand touted as cornering better. He now reports that, while he likes the new bike a great deal, it's taking him longer than he thought it would to get to be as comfortable on the new bike as he was on the old. This says nothing negative about him or either bike, just that they, and we, are all a little bit unique, and have our strengths and weaknesses.

Just don't let them pull the "you just aren't fast enough to know how bad they handle" line on you. That'll be next.

If you like it. it works for you. Who gives a rosy red rat's tail what "they" think?
