2008 WR450 Exhaust Opinion

I bought a new WR450. It sounds like my neighbor's son's XR80. I see I have several exhaust options from a system, to a can, to a Pro Moto Billet performance baffle. I'm not Chad Reed. I do not think I will notice a half horse power difference between exhaust options. I will not notice the difference in ounces that a titanium pipe will make. I can hit the bathroom and loose that much weight before I go ride. With this in mind, is it worth spending the comparatively big dollars for a system or should I just buy the can. Or, will the Pro Moto Billet performance baffle make the bike sound correct and contribute sufficiently to the horesepower at a fraction of the cost. I am a comparatively hard core Vet rider who rides primarily Northern California single track.

There is an internal baffle that can be removed from the stock WR muffler that will open it up a bit, but not to the point of obnoxiously loud.

I believe you have to drill the rivets and remove the end cap to get the baffle out, but I'm not sure. Ask in the WR forum, those guys probably know.

If you do buy an aftermarket pipe or system, please do us all a favor and get something that isn't ear-shattering.

You have a lot of good options. Much of this is your personal preference and ability and feel of degrees of performance (apologize if I stated the obvious).

I have the FMF Q4. I can feel the difference of the upgraded slip in performance. Also of importance tp me is aesthetics...I like the look of the slip on over the std pipe. I am not of the ability as a rider to benefit from a new header pipe. The slip on is enough, and the current header has nice protection.

Just my 2 cents. You have many good options and many threads with great info.

I race and ride hard (40+ "A"), I just wrapped up a class championship in our off road series up here in WA. I installed the GYTR end cap, ($45), the bike is routinely less than 96db at sound check but will run with any 450 out there. I noticed PMB equivalent has a larger diameter than the GYTR.... both these options retain the stock S/A... I also see that guys are just completely removing the stock tail pipe and not replacing it with anything - I think you can also retain the S/A with this method as well....

The big dollar systems are great but based on my experience I would spend that money on suspension work ?
