1987 XR600 owners, help!

Recommended Posts

I purchased a WP shock off a fellow TTer from a semi-custom 1993 XR600 for my 1999 XR600. The shock is pretty trick but doesn't fit my 1999.

Problems: The upper mount is different. My stock 1999 shock has a thin upper mount with a pressed-in ball. The WP shock has a thick upper mount with two pressed-in spacers. The upper mount is about 1/8" too wide to fit in the frame. The lower mount needs a bolt with a nut while the stocker's bolt threads into the lower shoock mount. The nut on the WP shock slightly contacts the swingarm at maximum depression.

1987 XR600 owners: The donor bike has a horizontal reservoir tray mounted on the frame just like a 1987 XR600. Are the upper and lower shock mounts the same as the WP shock or the 1999 shock? I need to know because the shock has no stock number and I'm looking for a rebuild kit.

Thanks in advance.

I found another problem. I think this will shift my hard shifting problem. I hit neutral so many times. It is my shift lever is against the side.

Where do you find a rear light cover?

Sorry about the dirty bike. I would clean it but it is like 40 degrees out and probably raining.

nice bike, thanks for the pics. Yours is an 87 right? I am trying to put a 600 swing arm on my xr 200. Im looking for years that had aluminum SA, and drum brakes. I was told 86-87 were the only years. but I dont want to buy one till I know it fits. If you get a chance( and dont mind doing it) Would you mind measuring the with at the pivot bolt, and the length from the pivot bolt to the axel. It would help me tremendously. I have asked people on Fleabay for measurements of ones they are selling and get no response. Thank you. If you dont want to I understand.

PM TT member Yogi Bear. He has a 600 swingarm on his XR200. I think he has a thread on the swap too.

XR600 were drum brake through 1990.
