2008 yz450f chassis on 07 yz450f possible?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering, im getting a 450 soon and I want a yamaha but the big thing that is making me think twice about it is the 07 handling issues of it pushing in corners. I was wondering if you think it is possible to buy the 08 frame and use all 07 components, motor, suspension, etc...with no mods to make it work? Maybe changing the steering stem to the 08 one and the clamps.. but besides those things everything else 07 do you guys think this would work?

ok you guys are saying going to the 08 chassis wouldnt change anything but I just dont understand why Grant Langston and others that went from an 07 to a 08 claim much improved handling?? Is Grant just trying to sell bikes for Yamaha because I know he could of went to 24mm offset if he wanted it. What about the 08 that makes it a claimed better handling bike?

And every time Chad Reed lines up against Grant(including the one national CR rode) he beats him on a '07 hmmmm. So yea its P.O.S

Sounds like you should go with the '08

Dude I ride both bikes and they are not that diffrent from each other(in terms of handling) of course this is my opinion and I am slow:smirk: .

Good luck with what ever bike you choose there are lots of people out there that cannot even ride for one reason or another.?

Try to understand this, OK? This info was in the thread I linked you to, but since you either did not get it, or did not read it, let me say it again in summary form:

NEITHER the frame or the triple clamp is what makes the '08 handle better than the '07, so changing it would a prohibitively expensive waste of money.

The most important difference in the handling of the two bikes is in the steering geometry, and was altered by retooling the lower fork leg. You can get the same result by installing 24mm offset clamps on an '07. The '08 frame contributes to the overall improvement, but no more than 10% on the best possible day.

You really need to stop listening to people parroting claims made by the marketing department.

I never was going to get a new 08, cant afford it, I was just wondering what was wrong with the 07, and can it be improved, just trying to gather information to see if I want a 06 or 07 yz450f or 06 or 07 kx450f I like Yamaha but I hear about the handling issues, and I know the Kawi is a good handling bike but I am more of a Yamaha fan than a Kawi one.

  • 4 months later...

I have the 07, and my buddy just bought an 08 recently...We've swapped bikes out at the LEMX track, Dumont Dunes, Ocotillo Wells, and in Glamis...I'm an above average rider, and he's an ex-racer...We have a hell of a time distinguishing the different characteristics of the two, so damn similar (even though mine has a WB AlumPro II)...He's kicking himself for not saving the $ and getting the 07...My point is, I believe you need to be an EXTREMELY good, technical rider, and litterally jump from one bike to the next to even notice the difference between the 07 and 08...And if you do notice the difference, the 24mm clamps and a better tire should make you happy...

Rear suspension linkage is different on the 08 also.
