My YZ Took A Swim Today!

Well, I got hit at the most inopportune time, which was while crossing deep

creek in a race. I went face first into the water. I got up and looked at my bike

and it was completely submerged! F-Word! This was within the first 20 minutes

of a 2 hour race. I wasn't about to give up, so I kicked and kicked. I turned my

bike upside down and pushed through the kick starter.

Finally, I was able to get it running with the choke on. Then I was able to rev it.

I took off on my bike, and it quickly started running flawlessly.?

I finished at 12th place, and we figured I spent 20 minutes trying to get my bike

started according to the lap times. My best lap was only 1 minute slower than

the leader's. Damn, that really hurt my overall.

So, I'm wondering if I did any damage to the motor? What should I do now? I'm

planning on changing the oil + filter. Anything in particular that I should do?

Do you think since I rode the hell out of it I have now compromised the

reliability?

I don't know. I just got home and haven't changed the oil.

change the oil a couple times and run it at idle for a couple min so the new oil gets into all the parts just to make sure you get all the water out, change the airfilter, drain your gas, and i think thats it. o yea your might want to repack your muffler

Yeah! It ran great the entire rest of the race! Should I change the plug or do

anything else? I just want to be safe.

How did the oil look when you drained it? Milky, or more or less normal?

The problem with water in the oil is that the detergents/dispersants emulsify the water and it turns the oil int a nasty foam that won't lubricate anything. If you ran it with oil that looked like that, you should pull the cam caps off at the least, and see if you can detect any damage.

It was hell to start after I dumped it into the water. It took me 20 minutes to get it fired up (this is during the race). Once everything cleared up, it ran great.

The oil looked very thin. Not too bad though.

if water was sux'd into the motor from the breather tube,,,the oil would be greyish/milky........if yours does not look like this you are good to go:thumbsup:
