08 Forks

Recommended Posts

So on the Yamaha website they say:

Fully adjustable air-/oil-separate 48mm cartridge-type fork delivers precise, fade-free handling; fork protectors provide excellent tube protection.

The AOS forks are yamaha's twin chamber fork but everyone has told be the 07 and 08 forks are exactly the same, including a "product specialist" I spoke with at corporate yamaha. Can anyone tell me different? Also, the site says the 08 is 2 lbs HEAVIER than the 08. I'll probably get an 07 and make it the bike I want it to be but man I wish they would just do this bike right and make it a KTM XC killer out of the box!

I don't know what Yamaha is thinking. The '08 WR forks are the same style forks that they have been using since '05 (which are not much different than the forks that were on my '99 WR400).

Why Yamaha is calling the forks on the '08 WR an AOS (Air-Oil Seperate) is a mystery to me. They ARE NOT a twin chamber AOS type. The forks used on the WR's are still the ancient KYB cartridge/midvalve setup they've been using since '98 (with slight improvements.......like bigger tubes.....wooohooo!!)

The AOS was only used on the '05 YZ's and it was the only year they were used. The AOS fork was heavily modified in '06 on the YZ's and renamed the SSS (Speed-Sensative System) fork. The SSS fork is light years better than the AOS design and IMHO superior to the Showa Twin Chamber (at least from a tuners standpoint). Yamaha hasn't started using this fork on the WR's yet and I think it criminal.

Exactly! I have an 05 yz and when I saw that they said the 08 wr had AOS forks my question was "are these 05 forks"?! There is a reason they only used the AOS fork for one year. My 07 yz has the best suspension of any bike I have ever had, a set of these tuned for offroad on a wr would be perfect!

Hey Rob, I think you should ride my 05 with the factory Connection setup I know it would put a smile on your face.:worthy:

But then I would be sad when I had to get back on mine. Just like today when Jeff decided it would be funny to offer letting me ride his bike then say "just joking" I told him I would have said no anyway... bike envy!

I already have one of those and I'm kind of over it at the moment. Or do you have an 05 wr also? Either way I want a NEW bike. My 05 yz was my first new bike, now I'm kind of a snob, wont buy used again. Well, if I can get a job anyway
