Need input.
Want stock rims in black, so want them anodized, bud dont know if I shoult have them sand blasted prior, or just clean them.
Blasting would probably do no good to smooth alu surface?

Just get it polished to a mirror finish, the smoother the rim the better the anodizing!

Stock rims are already anodized clear. You need to strip that off first or the black anodize will not "take". Sand blasting will give you a really crappy looking surface. Polish with scotchbrite and progressively finer polishing compound or sand with 600-1000 grit paper to remove the anodize and give you a good looking surface for the black.

Is there a chemical or electrical procedure to break the anodizing effect, sort of reverse anodize.

When you take it to be anodized they dip in a path of acids, rinse with baking soda solution, polish it and then re-anodize in the color you want and seal with another solution!

Why don't you just get them powder coated instead. It's cheaper, faster, and will probably hold up just as long.

Dont believe that added colour layer will hold up as much as already proven and tested anodizing, as all bikes have it from natural, red, blue to black colour.

all done. Consider, rims are 8 years old.
from distance it will look nice.
Yes, EXCEL text is gone now.

my rims are 8 years old too... i used a Marks-a-Lot marker though. not sure on how it will hold up though compared to your anodized ones.
