Uni Filter with high flow cage & swing arm tool

Recommended Posts

:worthy: Hi, I just bought a '07 XR650R and was wondering does anyone know where I can buy the newest air filter from UNI that has the high flow cage/frame with it? Also, regarding the special lock nut wrench for the swingarm, does anyone make these tools (motion pro, ect.) other than Honda? Thanks.

Buy the less restrictive air box screan from XRs Only, also, incase you havent done it, get the smog removal kit from XRs Only, all 2007's come with the smog pump.:worthy:

I bought the XR's only backfire screen. It didn't fit well. It went with my old bike when I sold it. It was forced into the air box and then has gaps in some places between the edge of the airbox and the screen. I'm not convinced that it flows much more air than the stock mesh.

I am running the UNI air filter with the high flow cage (UNI) and no backfire screen. Last weekend, I dumped my bike and flooded it. When I started it, it backfired. Later I checked out the air filter and it singed the backside of the foam pretty good. I'm thinking of installing the factory backfire screen but removing a couple layers of the mesh for better flow. I think I saw ths on someone's website.

Thanks for all the info. These are the following items that I have performed on my new bike: 1. removed the smog pump with xr's only kit. 2. rejetted the carb with the powerup jets and needle plus the intake. 3. drilled out the muffler tip. 4. Replaced the stock thermostat with xr's only. 5. removed the snorkel and plastic square piece in the airbox. 6. I purchased the backfire screen from xr's only and I too agree with Billahjack that I am not impressed with its fit. I also bought a uni filter from xr's only as well and it was only later while looking around on the web that I saw some uni filters coming with the high flow cage. But now, I'm thinking that I may run the stock backfire screen with the uni filter so I don't burn up my filter. Thanks porterdog for the info on the swingarm tool.

What is that swingarm preload tool used for??? im a L owner but curious.

Preload is kind of a misnomer; it actually allows you to set the clearance between the parts that clamp the swingarm at the front pivot.

Regarding starting a flooded (crashed!) bike, I've recently been using Bruce B's 'race' technique. Get on, open the throttle wfo, clamp the front brake, and KICK! (Errr.... it's good to let go of the throttle right away if it starts.)

You can often get a one-kick refire this way.

I read that also on his site, and tried it also, works about 2 out of 3 times for me.
