CRF: if it looks like oil is seeping from the lines at the screen junction, it's probably the washers. They don't look like much, but they are actually very soft and act as crush washers. If they've lost all their crush, they might not be sealing properly. 14mm and 12mm if I'm not mistaken.

im 16 to, i bought a brand new 07 XR650R and ive got 3250 miles on it in 3 months. All ive done is change the oil and check the valves. The manual says 600 miles on the oil then it has to be changed, ive put 1000 on mine and it wasnt even that dirty. It's a great bike on the road with the right gearing, and it comes road legal in europe.

It should do 100 MPH fine with 15-45 gearing, and it accelerates as fast as hell, pulls 2nd gear wheelies with just a twist of the throttle. Very light and fun as hell in supermoto trim.

It will be a great bike! and you should be able to put 10,000+ miles on it without problems.

I picked up a really clean 650R and converted it for street... great bike... depends how you work the throttle but the range is around 100 miles.... my quickest tank was 81 miles.... change the oil every 900-1000 miles and its fairly clean....

Have you ever read posts on YouTube? Most posts are illegible and seem written by 5 year olds. YouTube is a forum for semi-literate morons to hide behind their keyboards and type misspelled curse words to strangers.

I don't want to discourage people from posting questions, and I don't want to sound too self-conceited, but I just hate to see blatant laziness, or lack of effort in any shape or form.

If certain people maintain and work on their motorcycles with the same effort and attention to detail as reflected in their spelling, then I fear for the welfare of their motorcycles.

Yeah, we tend to be a bit casual with our respect for our version of the English language, here in the States. No excuse for it, really.

I suppose the upside is that in a couple of years he, or his buddy down the street, or his older brother, or his sister will volunteer to put on a uniform, pick up a gun and travel half way round the world to put his life on the line to help a country try to be free. Same as a Brit or an Aussie or a Cannuck would do.

My guess is he's a good guy. Doesn't excuse poor diction. :-). But, he's still a good guy.

The L is the way to go for that much commuting. Street legal right out of the box. Change the oil and it will go forever.

besides it having that horrible rear light assembly, ugly tank and fairing. various top end problems, pretty flat power in comparison, an ancient engine that honda cant be bothered too re design. it is a pretty nice bike, but not for me thanks. i dont think an xrs gonna work with my mileage/needs. gonna have too go more like a transalp or varadero route. .

Okay, but have you RIDDEN one? My main DS ride is an XR650R., but recently a buddy let me put a tank of gas through his L. That experience gave me a whole new perspective--and appreciation--of the L.

There's a reason Honda hasn't made any big improvements to the L: it works.

You should do yourself a favor and at least ride one before you judge it, imho.

reliability? comfort is not an issue, passenger usage?

off road ability, power/torque. i dont want a flat boring bike. i want too be having fun. its for fun, not a tool. if i wanted a tool id get a big scooter or a car.
