Hi guys,

Got an 08 after switching from honda to kawi back in 07.
I loved the 07; good bike and pretty reliable.
Now I've been riding the new 08 for the past 2 weeks and I just feel it's way louder than the 07.
Way more bark to it Just like i'm riding with an aftermarket loud pipe.
Anyone else noticed that?
I've put the 07 silencer on the 08 and it's much quieter.
oh and I tried 2 (08) silencers with the same results (loud)

The Aus magazine ADB did a test last month on the 08 and all three riders and the article author all remarked that the 08 was LOUD. I have never read anything like that before.

Oh Kawi, how silly. :bonk:

Can anyone comment on loudness of the YZ "punched cone" muffler?

The new YZ silencer is QUIET!

The $299 slip-on from FMF is quiet and can be made EVEN QUIETER with the S/A.

You could, as an option, get the Pro-Moto Billet tip.

really really loud i have had an 06, 07, 08 i still own all three get a new one each year due to sponcers and my 08, and 06 are so loud my 07 is by far the quitest now alot of this is my fault due to exhaust mods i put the Pro circuit Low boy Gp system on my 06 and on my 07 i put a full low boy Leo vince with the fast box (best exhaust set up ever) and on my 08 stock is louder than both of these so as soon as leo vince comes out with the new exhaust i will let you know what it does

It's great that Yam are working on it. ie. power without so much noise. It's sad that Kawi appear to be taking the "cheap" option for instant throttle response. Very irresponsible for a manufacturer, IMO.

I can ride my 06 at some lovely private locations but only if I keep it quiet. Stock is often no option. We found the sound travels 3+ miles over flat land with the stock muffler. So my options are: a dbDawg insert for the stocker, and also FMF Q2 slip-on, and also a WR450F muffler which fits my light weight FMF mid pipe. For fast open tracks more HP and a more open pipe is unreal fun+speed, but for tight tracks or bush ("woods" in USA speak) where KX450F wide-open-throttle rarely or never happens (in my case), the WR muffler with various exit pipe options I have is really (really!) good power vs noise on my KX. Throttle response is still near instant, but I get more roll-on power for the low gears so I can ride faster for hours. In full "stealth mode" the WR muffler flows surprisingly well and I find the traction is better in some situations. Again, good work Yam.

Yeah I was also thinking of using the klx450 silencer.
teamgreen, which FMF for 299?
is it the Q2?
what about that wr pipe, would it fit over the stock header?
anyway for now the 07 silencer is stealth compared to the 08

I looked at the KLX450 muffler in a shop, and I suspect it might be on the heavy side. No idea how flow/noise efficient it is. Certainly it is quiet. The OEM mufflers can be pricey! Lucky I got my used WR alum 06 muffler for USD90.

Yes and no. Yes the WR450 mid-pipe join fitting is the exact right diameter for the end of the 06 header. No, the mid-pipe bend is completely different. So I used the FMF mid-pipe made for the KX450, which positions the muffler low and forward, and I had to move the mounting bracket aft on the cannister.

Combined with a custom alum exit pipe, the WR muffler fitted to my bike is a few grams lighter than my stock muffler and mid-pipe, plus I can swap it with my other options in minutes. For power with quiet (and reliability) the KX450F (06) has been a great choice for me. It has so much bottom end hit that I can "cork up" the exhaust and it still has a very nice power curve. Certainly faster for me in poor traction conditions.
