Upgrade from 2000 - 426 to 2008 - 450?

I'm ready for a new bike and looking for a little feedback from anyone who might know. I currently ride a 2000 YZ426, mostly trails, but every once in a while I hit the MX track.

With the 426, my biggest issue is the front end push. I'm currently running a soft aggressive tire, 11 to 12 psi, with the fork tubes raised a bit. The changes have helped substantially, but the bike still is a handful in the woods due to front end push.

So, I'm considering either a new '08 YZ450, or the new KLX 450. Can anyone give me a comparison on the 426 vs the new YZ450 on the trails? Does the front end stay glued a bit better? I had a '99 KX 250 before getting the 426, and the 2-stroke stuck like glue! I was hoping the new YZ450 was a big step in this direction (as compared to the 426).

i have a 08 and its the best handling bike i've been on sticks like glue

Ironically enough I just came off my 01 426 and moved up to the 08 yz450. You can bet your bottom dollar the front sticks to corner!! carves like a suzuki now, feels like a two stroke its so light and the rear follows where ever you point the front. And its very quiet stock! Stock jetting sucks though. I could go on and on about the new bike. I let a guy with an 08 honda ride my yz while I rode his honda, i liked his honda as well, a lot of power and it felt simular in the lightness and turning. But knowing yamaha is the most reliable, i would pick my yami over the honda anyday. You will love the 08 yz450

Thanks for verifying all I have heard guys. I was really thinking about the KLX until I started hearing the YZ reviews! Sounds like it's just the ticket.

You had problems with push on the 00??!? I ride an 06 YZ 450F in the woods, previously had an 00 426 that was a woods ride also. You won't be sorry, trust me!

u put only 11 psi in ur front tire!!!! wow, i never let any of my bikes front or rear tires get below 20 p.s.i

20 PSI is WAY too high IMO. I run 12-13 front and 15 rear for the woods.

i run a 2000 426 and I run 10-12 psi in the front tire, 11-14 psi in the rear tire (depending on terrain). the way i see it is, why do I need more PSI in my front tire, i just pop it over the hard stuff :-)

I run a Michelin S12 front tire and it holds like glue to the trails. i love my Dunlop 756 on the rear, gets the job done!

I went from a 99 Yz400 to a 08 450 and all I can say is :thumbsup:

How does the power of the 08 compare to the early 200x models? I'm sure there's more, but where is it in the rpm range? For example, is there still enough bottom to rip tight corners in 3rd without the clutch?

There is if you change the pipe.

The manual calls for 15 psi, and most people run between 10 and 15 psi, depending on the situation. At 20 psi, you're giving away a considerable amount of traction.
