Has anyone taken the KX450F to the dunes without a paddle? I'm headin to Dumont this weekend, never been, not much of a dune rider so I haven't justified getting a paddle. Will 3-4 hours of riding without a paddle burn out the bike? I know the RPM's will run a lot higher, will that overheat the engine? Just had the oil changed and checked all my fluids, switched out air filter so it should be good to go.

Is it worth getting the paddle to save the bike? Any recommendations would be appreciated, thanks

Id definitely get a paddle before heading out there. I just picked one up 2 weeks ago for a little over $40.00...money well spent. I would figure your bike would eventually overheat from working so hard in soft ass sand out in the desert, although its not so hot at the moment. Just my opinion though

I personally wouldn't worry about a paddle. i have an 07 KX 450F that I ride at the St. Anthony dunes all the time. My big dislike of a paddle i used to use on a kx 250 was that it seemed to throw me a little weird for jumping but if that isn't a big deal to you than go for it, definitely sweet for climbing and such. i don't feel that without it though that it is going to be overworked. i ride with my stock tire still and i can climb any dune i want no problems.

If you don't buy a paddle then at least save the motor by installing a fresh clean air filter everyday that you are there. The sand will clog the filter like after one day of riding like you would not believe. If you go for one day then take the fiilter out and clean it in the kitchen sink and half the dunes will be in the bottom after you drain the water.

Dude, in all hoesty...your bike is gonna run REALLY hard at Dumont even WITH a paddle.

Without a Paddle? You're gonna get a helluva work-out and your header will turn a beautiful shade of Blue-Purple:ride:

My bike is a blast at Coo's Bay with a Turbo-Paddle.

As for the comments about "Jumping" with a paddle?

The bike can launch you pretty hard if you aren't used to jumping with a paddle; HOWEVER, just take the time to get used to the paddle.

Besides, you can't believe the ROOOOOOOST you'll make.

Have fun, don't forget your "Whip" and have a Great Week-End!
