WR450 with YZF450 cam

Has anyone installed the YZF450 intake cam in ther bike. I am considering doing it and am curious how it changed the power

It just gives the bike a bit more mid and top.

I have got a set of hotcams in mine, it gives the bike even more top end over the YZ exhaust cam.

I am pretty sure it is the intake cam.The tech that is doing the job said that the WR has one cam that is the same as a YZF and one that is different and he was going to install the YZF cam in replacement of the other.

The '03 - '06 (not too sure about '07+ but think they got different cams) have the exact same intake cam. It is the exhaust cam that is different. It is actually the same cam, just timed differently.

You could look at the Yamaha microfiche and that will tell you the cam part numbers for each bike. If the numbers match, the cams are the same!

I did that and found that one cam had the same number and the other was different. I originally brought the bike in just wanting the timing changed and that is when the tech told me that the timing wont change much he recomended changing the cam.

I think much of that problem was from before hotcams had WR specific exhaust cam. The YZ cam has a longer decomp pin than the WR cam.

Kick only for me... I got high comp piston as well. Not enough power to crank the engine over fast enough with the extra compression. I have 3 different mates with hotcams in their WR's and their e-start works fine.

I got some new parts for my e-start, and got a few different pins of hotcams to try for free!

If they don't work, I'm going to put standard compression piston back in.

That is for when I sell it, as the new owner (whoever...) would most likely want e-start.

I have been living with out e-start for over a year now, it isn't that bad. Still starts first kick. I guess it is just good preparation for a new YZ450F!!!

Yep, it is the YZ exhaust cam that you want, not the intake.

Hotcams has timing wheels that you can change timing on them. This should be only done by someone who knows how and what they are doing. With stock cams is it only 1 tooth off either side on dead-on.

That is for the old cams like for old yz/wr 250, the pre-auto decomp ones.

no problem starting with e start with cam changes, it's the high compression piston that makes the e start useless. both exhaust and intake cams are different on the wr from the yz (07 and up). the hotcams are pretty much the same price as the stock yz cams, so go for the extra boost with the hotcams!! i would guess the stage 1 cams would be the best?

Does the cam swap make the bike more stall happy? How much does it rob the low end of the powerband?
