I find this thread really interesting, since I have spent about $300.00 making mine legal. I think it depends on where you live in Ohio. I tried for 3 weeks after buying my bike(WR426) to get the affidavit that everyone talks about, before I changed it in to my name. I ended up at the Highway patrol inspection station ,and talked to the officer that does inspections. I had to have the following items. I have yet to get it officially transfered, my rear tire has not come in yet. In Ohio according to the patrol you must have headlamp(does not have to be high/low, but if it is you must have indicator lamp for high beam), tail lamp, brake light, license plate light, turn signals, horn, mirror, reflectors front and rear,DOT tires. I'm not sure about a odometer/speedometer, but I have a trip odometer and a gps for the speed. I had several people tell me they did not get an inspection, but no one can tell me where they got it done or where the paper work came from. I live in Wayne County and have tried in Summit ,Medina, Wayne and Portage county. When I get the tire on next week I'm going to call the Patrol station and find out whats next.

When I moved to Ohio I was paranoid I wouldn't be able to plate a bike here, so I brought my CA registered yz400 and left in CA registered. Well I come to find out like others have said, it's no big deal. I ended up taking that bike back to CA and bought the 450exc, but that's another story

When I Registered my wife's crf230, which was alread CA plated, the only thing they wanted to look at was the VIN and ODO. They could care less about the Full Dirt knobies that were on it. They didn't bother look at the lights/signals. (turn signals not reqired in OH)

The only thing the OH BMV (dmv) is real sticky about is Titles, if you want to register a bike, car whatever. you must have the right paperwork and they just about always insist it's "Notarized" So if you buy a bike out of state or locally, don't forget to get the Title notarized.

happy trails

I would like someone to tell me where it is, that it's so easy. I went to 5 different DMV's . My title says offroad use only as well as the VIN. I can't get the plate untill the title is changed, they wont give me a affidavit untill its inspected. Someone do tell as I would like to stop the process where it's at. Even though I'm legal, I still have to trailer the bike to get it inspected and I'm sure there is a Fee for that.

Guys I have been back and forth so many times on how to transfer the title on my DRZ400E from off-road (OR) to a motorcycle title (MC).  Basically, the title agency says I need to have the bike inspected by Ohio State Patrol and OSP says they do not inspect body changes on motorcycles, only self-build bikes or re-built bikes.  And they only check those to make sure there is no stolen parts on them.

Anyway, I finally talked to an Ohio State Patrol Officer who is very knowledgable on this subject and he clearly stated I DO NOT NEED AN INSPECTION.  He said I just need to go to the nearest title agency and ask for the "Body of Change" afidavit and if they have any questions they can call him personally.

So off I go to my nearest title agency this morning and was successful!  In fact it was nothing, I just said I purchased this motorcycle and need to transfer the title into my name and also transfer the title from OR to MC as the bike has everything it needs to be street legal.  She completed the transaction, no questions asked.

Now this was a different title agency location than the one where I was told I need an inspection, but even that lady called me back and said I was correct, no inspection is needed.

So S2P, let us know if you continue to have problems and I can give you the officer's name that gave me this information.

Dealer I bought My DRZ 400 S from had just done a XR650 R for himself and I checked with the BMV.

Ohio requires Dot tires, Signals Tail/brake light Headlight Horn && 2 mirrors. If any dealer signs the Affadavit that you have that the BMV will accept it.

different title bureaus have varyin evperience with bikes so some of them will give you a hard time. i even  looked up the ORC on it at one time and it does nor REQUIRE inspection.

Looks like you maybe right about the signals http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/4513.261
It seams I remember reading something about turnsignals were not required, but you had to know the Hand signals. that did seam lame.

One mirror is ok?

Come to Delaware County, I walk it and out in 5 minutes with two street titles, one for the 426 and the other for the TTR 125. I bet I could go in and get one for the TTR 90 if I wanted one.

Ok this is unfricken believeable, but today I went to the title agency and told them I need a change of body affidavit. The girl says no problem and hands it to me. Unfortunately I didn't have the title with me but I told her I'll be back with title, OK she says see ya then. It is, believe it or not the first place I went when all this started 8 months ago, only then I didn't know the name of the form. I owe a big shout out to you guys who helped this along, picking up the rest of my parts this evening. Might get out this weekend if the rains stop.

What office did you go to S2P? I am in Orrville and just picked up a lighting stator and dual sport kit for my '00 yz426 last night on ebay. If the title work does not require an inspection there is no way I am going to blow cash on DOT tires. Street legal with no kick stand...oh yah!

I tried the no kickstand for a while but got tired of trying to find a place to lean it up against.

Trail Tech has a kickstand that works good for like $80.  I have one on my 01 YZ426 and it works good.  I took some sticky velcro and put the two sides back to back.  Then I but one of those brass rings for a bolt hole and bolted it to the mud flap.  I wrap it around the kickstand for added assurance that it doesn't bounce around in the whoops.

So, I realize that thirs is an easy process if you have a off road title.

I've got a cr125 with no title or mso.

I've got a bill of sale only, does anybody know if theres a quicker way to get to the street title instead of going: bill of sale>offroad titile>street title
