2001 XR650R, 4400 miles, with Baja electric start. The bike is fully optioned for On and off road, It has over $2500 in options. It has the new rubber mounted solenoid for durability. The full white brothers exhaust system, oversize tank, and more. The bike is local to me in NY and titled for street use.

The guy claims he did 140mph on the highway. This sounds very unbelievable to me. I have a friend with a 650L and he said his bike goes about 105mph. Is it possible that his bike really goes 140?

I would stay far far away from anyone one selling a XR who claims it goes 140mph on the highway.

I'll go out on a limb (a 55" diameter oak limb) here and suggest that this bike might not be very fresh:ride:

140?

Electric start is not the kind of mod that makes 'em go faster

Check it out anyway, but unless there's a custom suspension that matches your weight (check sag), and a few more motor related mods, the price is probably a bit high.

I guess I just wanted to know if the price was too high.

Maybe the 140mph thing is not relevant, but I appreciate the comments.

The 140MPH thing is VERY relevant. They are trying to tell you that if a guy claims his bike has been 140 mph (even if it hasn't) he probably totally abused that bike(motor). High Revved the crap out of it on the street..WOT for days on end..etc.. SO... If your looking at that bike, you should be careful.

Just keep looking. There are many bikes out there to be had with no abuse on them, and you will notice them. Kinda like a shiny diamond.

This aint canada frenchie...america baby! mph!

I say go for it. If this thing can do 140 then its probably worth way more than $4000....so if you think about it, $4000 for this rocket is a steal. Jump on it.

I would at least take a look at it..it doesn't cost to look, since it is local. But be careful, as other knowledgeable posters to this thread have advised. Maybe take a pic of it and post it for us to comment further. 140 mph Hmmmmmm...NO F*****G WAY!

Maybe "DR650" is right. Maybe the speedo is off; he thinks he's going 140, but maybe he was only going 115mph or so, which is somewhat believable.
