606's best for ds use? 650L

Recommended Posts

I've read that a few of you like the 606's.

I just finished a 200 mile ride on my XRL, Lots of twisties, and 25 miles of desert at the mid point then tight twisties all the way home (and to the guy with the red interceptor... I'm the one on the dirt bike that left you like you were on a 10 speed with a flat tire when you came up and revved me and was generally anoying:prof: ) lol.

When I went to wash my bike I looked at my chicken strip and noticed... there isn't one so that got me thinking... I guess I was pushing the stock rubber all the way.

Question is, What tire do you guys recommend for 50/50 street/dirt ?

I'm also thinking maybe I'll just buy another set of rims and have street and dirt. That would cover it except the occasional day like today where I'll use the dirt setup and just take it easy on the turns getting there OR just use my truck.

It's just so dam fun in the turns too.

The D606's are very good 50/50 tires. I however, have gotten better wear life out of the Pirelli MT21s. They are also agressive 50/50 tires.

I just put the D606s on the front and rear about 700 miles ago. Much better than the stock DeathWings! They handle well in the dirt but seem unstable on paved roads above 70 mph. They also seem to be wearing pretty quickly. Next time, I will probably try Mefo knobbies if I can find them.

Ok, I'm looking into mt21, and the 606.

I put 606's on my 400lb KLR 650 back in February. took the bike 1700 plus miles through Baja and am still running them. I bet my bike weighed 650 to 700lbs with me and gear on it (I weigh 200) while in Baja. We were mostly on dirt/rock roads. As many of you may know, the roads in Baja are rough and rocky. VERY ROUGH. I was very impressed with the durability and longevity of the 606 tyres. I now have close to 2500 miles on them and they are still going. I do think they are a bit hard and don't provide the traction of a softer tyre (duh) but it's worth it. Since the XR is lighter and has more power, they will likely not last as long. We were doing 75 to 80 on the pavement. the bike got a little squirly at the high speeds but I believe it was due to the heavy load on the rear of the bike. cornering on pavement was not an issue. (dirt was an issue but it's a KLR afterall!) just my 2 cents....

OK I priced the 606 at 59.95 and 62.95 .

The mt21 is 62.07. So price isn't an issue.

Any problems with a 130/90/18 fitting?

Or a 140 even? if possible.

I'm looking for better off road as I know by going bigger I'll baloon it out a bit and the contact patch will suffer. Unless the on road will REALLY suffer.

Don't need to slide the turns anymore on the street.

i run the 130 mt21 on mine. i had to remove the upper chain guide though. its a big tire and works great offroad, just dont expect too much onroad as far as wear. i've heard of guy's running 140's, it is a stretch though.

I got 1k out of my 606's. 90% road. Stuck like glue in the twisties. Not so good in the dry loose singletrack but good over rocks when you let the air out.

My rear has over 1300 ALL street on it right now and i still have prolly 3/8 inch tread left im figuring ill get at least 1600 or 1700 and i do ride about 50/50 intown/freeway. I dont baby it from stops either i try to pull the wheels and take off quickly. I have taken on a nice ride in the mountains and i will say my buddies with streetbikes were like *** hes staying with us no problem in twisties AND on knobbies. Just FYI
