California Street Legal WR450F Vin

Recommended Posts

Just checking...and I did read the threads (even the 70 page one) on the whole issue with DMV-CARB-CHP.....

After reading that thread I came away with 2 conflicting conclusions....

You cannot get a street legal WR450F and if your VIN doesn't have a C or 8 in the 8th digit slot you can make it street legal...

There is a WR for sale and the vin is JYACJ12Y####### and its listed as street legal in California...

It would seem that this is totally legit and there is NO chance of a plate yank on a title transfer...

What is correct?

Its my understanding that the 8 position of the vin loophole doesn't work anymore.

If a bike already has a plate, a transfer of ownership would probably be fine.

Its sold as a "street bike" and registered by the new owner as a "street bike".

Just keep the words "offroad" and "dirt bike" out of the transaction.

Give the dual sport companies a call to get the latest scoop on the absurd rules and regulations. Dale at Trickdualsport.com would know if its a good risk.

A 3 or C in the 8th VIN digit indicates it's a red sticker bike. Regardless no WR, red or green sticker, is legal to plate in CA. Not saying you can't slip it through just that it's not a legal conversion. While the presence of a 3 or a C in the VIN probably makes it easier to identify not having those does not guarantee the plate will not be pulled.

If the bike was plated before I believe 2004 then it should have no problem keeping the plate.

Maybe in practice but technically no because the 03/04 WR's were red sticker and not eligable for conversion prior to the ban so still could be revoked though probably not likely. The '02 and older models are ok as they were green stickered by grandfather clause in '02.

Check this out.....its a 2006 and its plated....

I am not going to screw around with this at all....I have decided to by a KTM 450...that is definitely street legal...

I emailed this guy several times explaining why I wanted the VIN and he never responded...also told him in my email that the plates would probably get yanked on a transfrer...

Like I mentioned above...I am not interested in a hassle with the Communists running this state...

KTM 450 EXC....
